Franklin County, Ohio Animal Control Dog Laws Page

I know this is only one part of Ohio but for those of us who do live in a BSL area..How many of you in Ohio has a dog license, and have the $100,000 liability insurance? Im not saying that I wont follow these laws but merely saying that its becoming a real Pain:mad:

It is definitely a pain. I found it to be easy to acquire the necessary insurance though. We also have to muzzle the dogs when we take them out, chain link leashes, padlocked fenced in yard...We dont have a gate on our fence so that's not a worry for us, but dang, could you imagine having to unlock your gate every time you had to get in there?? Especially if there was no other way to get in! It's ridiculous but I love my doggies so I will follow the rules...The sad thing is, more and more counties here in Ohio are starting BSL. Mahoning County just posted up their laws. I hope Jefferson County stays clear....

OHIO SUCKS!!! BSL everywhere especially in franklin county. i live in cincinnati where your apbt and any mix are illegal inside the city limits. ohio laws requires a $100,000 ins policy, at least a six foot tall confinement area with roof. if dog is outside of confinement area must be muzzled and leashed. i lived in a little city inside of cincinnati call cheviot. my brother and i were repeatedly harassed and arrested for simply owning these dogs. i follow the ohio law to the letter but cheviot law requires a sign to be posted saying viscious dog on premises. this sign does not exist one must make this sign in order to follow cheviot law. it so sad that the peple who pet and love our dogs during the day watch the news at night and buy into the news propaganda.

I adopted a pit this weekend and my insurance company says they will cover her up to the first bite. After the first bite, she will no longer be covered. I have $300,000 of personal liability on my insurance. She will never bite anyone because she is a very sweet dog and I make sure I know where my dogs are at all times. They only go out when they need to use the bathroom, I am sitting outside with them, and for walks, so I am not worried. I am going to get the dog license after I get her spayed but unfortunately she went into heat as I was taking her to the vet this morning. Hopefully they won't come after me if I don't get the license right away. She got her rabies shot this morning.

Yes, Ohio sucks and if they ban pitbulls through the entire state then I will leave. I don't like living here anyway. We just stay because of my husband's job and my elderly mother but eventually we will be out of here. California has much better weather and more stuff to do.

By the way, my insurance is State Farm so if you own a home and they don't cover your dogs then I would switch to State Farm. I used to own 2 rotts and they didn't have a problem with them either.

Yeah, I live in Steubenville Ohio and they are a bit ridiculous on apbt laws!! We were just trying to do the right thing by calling our ins. company for the house to make sure we had coverage for the dog and they IMMEDIATELY dropped our policy. Luckily we found another agent called All Seasons Insurance (1800GOBUCKS) and we got an awesome deal on insurance. Actually they went through progressive who we already had our car insurance through. So at the end of the day we ended up with better house insurance and better vehicle insurance and total our price per year only went up about 250.00.. So Steubenville City can eat it cuz we are legal, just gotta get this little puppy to quit mistaking our hands and ankles as chew toys!! haha

Ohio sucks with they're BSL. Let me tell you why. Last night I was watching the news and a story came on the news about a kid getting bit. Now the reporter kept saying "bulldog", but at the bottom of the screen, it kept saying "pit bull bites kid". When they showed the dogs pic, it was clearly a Amer. Bulldog. Hell it even had its tail cropped, which I know that some pitties do but still, it was a bulldog. So why are the laws so hard? Because of peoples ignorance to this wonderful breed and the fact that everytime a dog that looks somewhat like a pittie bites someone, its in the news. They never report on any other breed and you know that it happens. That why BSL to me means "BULL **** LEGISLATION".

Hey, there may be some good news, guys. I just read and commented on a thread that stated that Ohio's BSL may be no longer once the House approves the revocation of the bill. How I interpreted it was that it would remove the requirement of you having to have $100k insurance on your pitts and it will revoke the ban on pitbulls. Yay! Finally some good news.

Oh yeah me too. I originally lived in KY my whole life and then moved to Columbus with my fiance' and I never could own a pitbull down there because everyone, except a select few people, hated pitbulls because of the media stigma everyone's created with them down there. So, now that I live up here in Columbus and pits are more prominent I can have one and be responsible and educate dumb people about how they are really a good breed if trained correctly.

Wow really? I didn't used to care for educating because i have a short temper with some people. But i'm working on it and pretty much beat it lol. and because we're trying to save this breed i try to educate as many as possible. Even if i fail with the ignorants who want to stay ignorant towards this breed.
Alot of the areas in Ohio are soooo pretty. i love it :) I wouldn't mind traveling, but when we moved to Arizona in 07 i missed this place like crazy. We were in Maricopa. It was a newly built area, very nice people, no pits, and it just didn't fit. I think they removed the BSL from down in Miami FL. It's nice down there. I wouldn't mind traveling back down there. but nooooo moving lol :D
