Doghouse

1300 x 1300.

I built this not long ago. The floor is an old pallet I picked up off the street, the frame is softwood which should cost next to nothing, and the walls and roof are green tounge flooring panels - I paid $25 for a sheet 2400 x 800.

Im no carpenter I just worked it out as I went along but if anyone wants any advice on how to build one like it ask away.

Not bad, I have plans somewhere for building a dog house for a typical APBT out of a single sheet of 4x8 plywood.

Looks good!!! I do like it and I like to put the barrels(cut it to fit and only use the bottom of it) inside of a house like that for cleaning and disinfecting but my dogs love the barrels inside of the houses. I put the wood up on the outside and add instulation on the inside. I have some that look like that, good houses and pallets are my best friends too. I also use them as shade additions also. You would be truly suprised how much the dogs like the barrels and how comfortable it really is for them.

Note: for others face your houses always southeast but slightly more south than southeast just a hair, for it brings the warm winds up for the front. I also use old carpet as doors during the winter time.

Nice job turbo!!!

Ceaser will chew a wood dog house up in a heartbeat. Mainly the opening, so my hubby had to put metal trim around it. Nothing sharp or anything that can hurt him.
He tried to chew on it a couple of times and then gave up b/c he was getting nowhere.
A hard plastic dog house he just chewed on and then drug it around everywhere in his kennel. We took it out b/c I was scared he was going to break his teeth.

Nice dog house Turbo...really good job.

This is how I made all of our dog houses, The plastic barrels fit snug inside the houses. The roofs come off so during the summer months I take them out, in the winter I put the plastic barrels back in and add straw around the plastic and the put the roof back on to insulate the houses. Of course straw in the barrels as well.

Thanks guys.

One of the bonues I found with this design is the use of the heavy flooring panels. The panels brace themselves, and so take alot of stress off the softwood frame and provide increased strength and rigidity. I screwed the panels to the frame but then I nailed them all to each other at the joins aswell.

I built one like this:
angelfire.com/nc2/uniquekennels/doghouseblueprints.htm
I put some roofing rubber on the top and made removable foam insulation panels for the gaps. Also hung some tractor belts on the inside doorway to help cut down more on wind. Before winter I want to get some rubber cow mat for the inside lining. In all less than $100.

It's so much fun building dog houses. I wish I could find some pictures (i'm sure my parents have them), but my old dog astro (which was a mutt to the point the vet didn't know what he was, lol) loved to watch the street and all so were his big fenced in area was, was where the dog house could be seen by the street. So me and my dad (being he was a general contractor and my grandfather built homes for 50+ years, etc...) built a small replica of our house as the dog house. With shingles, brick, fake window shutters, real windows that could be opened and closed. It was great. We actually ran a water line under ground and an electric line (for a closed in heater for the winter since he was a 90% outside dog); which was maybe a bit overboard....but the dog loved it. It was painted to match and everything.

Nothing like a fun and nice DIY! good job!
