Heartworms

I feel like such a bad owner...i took my one year old in today to get her annuals and they told me that she has a slight case of heartworms...they said in the blood result they only saw one micro_____ whatever the word is in her blood...its my girlfriend and i's dog and when we got her we talked to some people around where we lived and they said they had very few cases of heartworm cause we HARDLY ever see mosquitos...i think since i have lived her i have been bitten like once or twice...My puppy who is now four months old started her heartworm treatment today...i bought her a six months supply...Tomorrow i have to go drop my older dog off at the vet to get the heartworm treatment done

Has anyone had any complications with this treatment?

What strange side effects has anyone seen?

My girlfriends mother had a dog and she said that it turned aggressive after the treatment, has anyone heard of this?

Good Question! It is really tough on the dog, Knocks him down hard. they probably will keep it for a few days so make arrangements w/ the vet to come visit the dog as much as possible, and bring cheeseburgers. My Gorden setter had the treatment and he came out fine. He wouldnt eat or lift his head unless we visited. I dont think a well adjusted dog will turn aggressive over it, but I couldnt say for sure. its a little costly but you gotta do what you gotta do

We picked her up from the vet today...since we got her she has been doing great...just resting in her kennel...the one thing i have run into since i got her back is her being really sensative and growling at my other puppy everytime she goes near the kennel...they are good friends and play all the time i just assume that it is cause she just wants to be left alone right now...you can look at her and tell she is in pain but im glad that in two weeks she will be feeling better and healthier than before...thanks for keeping me in yalls thoughts
