Question Sick baby, sick pup?

Today I was riding bike and saw some guy walking an all grey with white chest bully and we chatted for a while. He claims if babies (human babies lol) are sick they can get a puppy without his shots sick. Is this true?!

They can not catch the cold virus but there are a few other illnesses than can be transmitted from dogs to humans and visa versa.
