For those of you who have 2 or more pits do you allow them to play rough with each other? If so how rough do and when do you make them stop?

Right now my 10 week old and year and 3 month old go at it pretty good.. Not trying to hurt each other just pretty rough. I have been making them stop the past couple days thinking it may not be to good.. What are your thoughts?

mine all play together and can get pretty loud and rough but not aggressive you can hear a difference in the growls and body language when its not play anymore { at least i notice with mine} cali lately has been getting pretty aggressive to the point we now crate her and correct her behaviour caus eit isnt very nice play lately. you really just need to keep an eye on them when they play especially with a much younger pup . I know my male is usually pretty submissive when he plays with babys he lays on his back and lets the pup crawl and attack him without much of a fight back but it will change as they age and you want to watch out for dominant behaviour like jumping ontop of the other , humping, ect. that can cause a fight if they both decide they are the dominant one.
I say at this age let them play but supervise just to make sure one isnt gettin tooled more then the other lol you dont want any pulled muscles or nips loki got nipped in play at 4 months and needed 2 stitches so accidents can still happen. nice if you can get them playing with a toy mine love to play with big stuffys or the tug rings we have I find when they use those there is less contact between them they are more biting into the toy trying to get it from eachother and chase eachother around the house playing keep away lol. { although again with the older dogs this could cause a fight if they are DA mine arent so far and this works fine for them}

ive let dogs play together before and like angel said you can tell the difference between play and seriousness between them after youve seen the two. these dogs do play roughly and it can escalate into something more very fast so always be on your toes.

When my Pittie was 5 months old (Gizmo) she was palying with my other older pit bull and it quickly turned into smething else. You do need to keep an eye and observe their body Language and growls. Luckily I was there and corrected her immediately. Lucky for her my other Pit bull didn't want anything to do with her and just got up and walked away.

If you allow them to play rough together, you have to be willing to step in between them if it devolves into a fight. It shouldn't reach that point because usually there are signs, but that can always be the end result of allowing them to play rough and you need to know that's a risk and be willing to take it.

Like everyone else has said, when my two played together, I could tell when their play started to become something else and would immediately end their playing and separate them.

For the most part its the little one that makes all the growling noises, Rampage really just chases or pesters her enough to make Cali chase him. The Pup Cali sounds like she is in a battle.. Rampage normally just nose butts her and sends her rolling lol.. We do have some toys that they love to play tug o war with and again that normally ends with Rampage dragging lil CAli all over the living room lol.. And yes if some thing was to break out between them I would have no problem getting between them, but i dont really forsee that happening..

I can't reall say much because my big one outweighes the little one by 70 pounds. I wouldn't let them play rough, I would encourage the bigger one to lay down and play that way. If these two get used to playing like that a fight can break out between them and they may also be rough with another and turn it into a fight.

I totally agree with everyone's comments... my two pups, Cujo and Hazel have played together since they were just a few weeks old and they looked so cute back then. But now that they are over a year old, their rough play may look vicious to some folks that are not familiar with APBTs, as my pups are so much bigger and stronger now. Even though Hazel is outweighed by our big baby Cujo by 25 pounds, she puts him in his place and usually lets Cujo know who is the boss. I look for signs, little yelps from a nip that was a little too hard or when they tackle each other a bit harder than usual when they play tag, and I always correct/seperate them when I feel it is getting too rough - kinda like timeout with kids. But the GP folks are correct... stay on top of their rough play and be ready to step in to break it up! You can definitely tell the difference between play and aggression... especially if you have been with the pups for awhile.

I have pics and vids of rough play. My guys get into it (mainly to astablish domance over eachother) but there is a big diffrenct between putting eachother in their places and fighting, I can post pics of all my guys rough playing and vids of momma dog Kera puttin Nilla in her place. I have had a few fights break out but never over astablishing donamancy or because of rough play, its a totally diffrent sound and sight.

just remember just because they play nice today doesnt mean they will tomorrow so be on top of it {id be very dilligent when the pup matures a bit like 6 months to a year}

The only ones I didn't pay attention to usually were all the females raised by Hooch, cause they were raised by Hooch.. Males will usually always get into it a lil with each other as do females, generally males and females do well together but again^^^^^^^

NO do not leave them unattended; cause once your sure they are fine with each is the moment they are not.. Hooch and Sadity his double bred daughter was like peas and carrots.

I kept sadity out of 3 pups almost 4mos old because she showed her stuff twice, once at 6 weeks when the billy goat was roughin up the pups my buddies and I were watchin and laughin and sadity stayed out of the way just watchin the whole mess and the goat had moved her direction she wasn't movin just chill, and that goat whopped her for not movin I guess and just as soon she laid into the snout of that goat and we were all off our azz in laughter watching that goat try to shake the pup, and then everytime the goat hit a pup she ran over and hit the goat we had to curve that to something else, well a month later Hooch ran off and pups followed, Hooch came back pup did not, over the whole outside of Nowata and a good friend of mine and I were at the burn pit just after feedin and heard the coyotes yippin, and thought OH man they are real close about that time they got that attack sound jackal like cause they are jackals, and I heard sadity light up; I said oh man that ditty, .. well I ran about an acre out and two pups met me, from the looks and sounds of it, Sadity and pups runin up got ambushed and sadity being lead pup had to turn back and jumped whatever had her littermates down. Sadity had a ear tore a rump rip and snout bite, while her sister who was later named pensicola was haggered. The third gyp pup didn't make it back from the mix up. SO glad to have the two back I gave the other to my buddy and kept Sadity. Her and Hooch couldnt be trusted with any male or female dog alone but with each they would play HARD and I mean HARD without gettin in it. Im sure others with a male and female close like that have similar experiences with the attitude of their dogs with other dogs but not the certain pair usually they have to be related to have this bond usually not always.

The point of the story is that even as pups they have the trigger that APBTs are known for, and are capable of damage as when we went back those coyotes not only ate the one pup, they cannibalized two others, Hmmm they must have been badly injured for such an occurance.. SO mindful vigilance, no excuses when they rip in to each other and you panic cause its unexpected; you should always know the limits usually when one get frustrated its gone too far! Keep the Shhhht or AT/Aht sound to regulate the level of play so they know they goin to far, and keep mindful cause ... OnnnnnnnnnE day, LOL

My 6 mo old pup rough houses w/ my two 2.5 yr olds..when they sound like they're getting a little rough I stop them usually

Kane and Roxie always played rougher with each other than other dogs. When they played with other dogs, I had to stop the play a lot sooner than I would have if it was just them playing with each other.
