"Pitbull" discrimination/stereotype
Ok, this should be a funny, comical or maybe even a disturbing thread. I'm sure all APBT, AmStaff, AmBully, or any "Pitbull" type of dog owner has been discriminated while out with their dog. List some of the funniest things ignorant people say about your "Pitbull". It seems like everyone knows your dog better than you...
Mine would include these...
1) Is your pitbull ok? He's seems awfully mellow for a pitbull. Is he sick? He may have some internal health issues.
2) You should get a larger collar because Pitbulls like to pull while walking and he can break through his collar.
I'm sure everyone here gets these types of comments.
3) You have a Pitbull. He'll bite and kill my dog.
I get all kinds of comments while walking my dog. It's horrible. If you want to know what it feels to be discriminated, walk a "pitbull" for a few hours.

I've heard all kinds of ignorant one guy told me I'm to pretty to own a pit bull. I was like????? He said,"Your not going to be pretty anymore if that dog tears your face off!" Right liked my dog would ever attack me, how stupid.
My boy is dog aggressive so I don't let him interact with other dogs, but he does know that fighting is unexceptable to me. I don't try and force him to play with others and he doesn't bother other dogs if we're out.

The sheer volume of dirty looks and comments I get are astounding. For instance- "you can't keep a dog like that in check"
"are you working him out to fight him?"
"If you discipline your dog he'll turn on you."
Poeple are as nutty as fruitcakes. Heck even the vet-tech threw a stupid comment my way when I brought him in for his first shots.

Haha. I didn't know you had to look a certain way to own a Pitbull. Lol. Hmmm I do run with my dog but no one has ever questioned me about training him to fight...yet. Haha.
My boys ears are cropped and I always get the question of whether its cut for fighting!
Also, I forgot to list the "he'll turn on you." I get more than anything!

I've gotten the 'WHEN she bites' talk multiple times, instead of 'IF'. And my husband and I were at McDonald's getting a redbox movie once a couple weeks ago, and Hiro was in the back seat of my car. She was just looking out of her window. The family parked next to us came out and started to come out and saw her. They went to the opposite side of the vehicle to get around her. The mom came out and started coming down and then went to the other side and made her husband BACK OUT of their parking spot so she could come out around the other side and be as far away from Hiro as possible even though she was behaving completely. It was ridiculous.

Yesterday actually I was walking my pup Shadow and kids were playing in the street and saw me. They asked if they could pet him and the mom shouted out "OH MY GOD NO! DON'T PET THAT DOG ITS VICIOUS!" I laughed and continued to walk.

I had that happen at the park before. This lady's little girl, about 4 I think, ran up to us saying,"doggy, doggy!" when the mom turned around and saw this big black APBT, she just about had a heart attack, screamed and started running after her daughter. Lol. As the little girl made it to us Dosia rolled over for the girl to give him belly scratches. It was very cute. The mom made it to us, had tears in her eyes, and grabed her daughter by the hand. She was presently surprised to see this dog is very gentile with kids. She actually said, "he must be mixed then, he too sweet to be full pit bull" lmao.

Ha. Get comments quite a bit at dog parks with my dog regarding kids. Kids don't discriminate and just love dogs yet parents teach their kids that "all Pitbulls" are vicious. It's sad.
Yes, my boy is vicious around kids. Lmfao

Awww that's a cute pic when I first got Dosia my son had just turned a year old, so he learned very quickly about interacting with small children. With my son, it was super important to me to teach him to respect animals. Never chase, hit, tease or try to scare any dog ever! A scared dog backed in a corner WILL bite. They're turning 4 and 5 this month and are just the best of friends they do everything together

I had an older lady I used to live by that has 4, I repeat 4!!!, vicious, crazy and psychotic dogs.
They are the classic "ankle biter dogs" lol, and she would curse my dogs with her eyes and her little yappers barking away.
They had even bitten the mailman, lol.
Well, one day she had the nerve to say, "why would you even want a dog like that!? They bite children and turn on owners!"
I replied, "First off, my dogs have never bitten anyone, none of my dogs have ever in my life bitten anyone.
But your little mutts have bit the mail carrier, so take a look in the mirror before you make accusations...and if them little dogs ever try biting me, I'll kick them off of the planet, or feed them to my dogs!"
She called 911...LOL. My cousin is the K-9 cop, so he just laughed.
She reminded me of one of them old style Catholic women I saw as a kid. She's a saint and everyone else is the devil.
Good thing about people who exaggerate is that few believe them.
The ones to worry about are the true haters, that say nothing.
I laugh at idiots who say such things.
But if children want to pet my dogs when I walk them, I always make them ask their parents.
Most who know me know my dogs are great with people, particularly children.

Haha. That is a cute pic of them checking things out. It's crazy to hear that people assuming that these dogs are bad with kids.
The picture below also shows that a 4 year old can walk a Pitbull, even on a corded Flexi-leash!
I get comments about how I should get a leather leash because he'll snap it. Lol. I know has the possibility and capability of snapping it but I know he doesn't pull and I know he's not reactive to cats, small animals, people, other dogs, etc. YET THEY KNOW my dog more than I do. It's ridiculous.

Bahahahaha. Omg that had me crackin up!!! I'd like to punt me some poof dogs too XD how on earth can people claim such things about our dogs when it is proven that their little s bite more often than big dogs. Lol so lame.
I had to lol @ the old catholic lady thing. I was raised by my grandmother who was a strict catholic. Thankfully she wasn't a dog racist though XD we owned a rott and Dobie when I was very young and she loved my Dosia. Bad mouth my dog and you got a cane upside the head lol Granny didn't play! For a catholic woman she did have her little dark side serving up booze when you weren't suppose to and such 5,2 and born of fire, she was one of the coolest ladies you could meet. Man I miss her a lot

I've heard just about everything lol.... people constantly yank their kids away from Keira, snatch up their little dogs, walk quickly in another direction....
However... I usually have my kids and one of our little dogs WITH us when we're out, so some people approach more readily I enjoy the conversations normally, because it's a decent teaching opportunity. The negative Nelly's just get laughed at or ignored.
Keira has grown up with my kids, so it works out.
