Obsessive licker?

So our oldest dog is an obsessive licker haha. Once she starts it is a chore to get her to stop! Don't get me wrong, I love the kisses, but not so much that my arm/face/hand/neck are drenched! Any tips on how to stop this? She's always been this way.

And a little background on her is she was abused as a puppy. Left in a garage to pee and poop all over it while her owners did drugs-this was a known fact. She got minimal food and water and was rescued and my husband got her. We've overcome a lot with her-especially since I met my husband. She used to have a fear of her food being take away. She was never aggressive just ate way faster than she should and if you tried to pick up what she was eating off of she would push it down and try to keep it and lick it clean! She eats at a normal pace now though we finally got her crate trained-that was a chore!- so no more trash from separation anxiety and we haven't had any resource guarding come up in a very long time. She's come a long way from being the terrified puppy my husband took in to the most love able girl ever.

My brothers dog does the same thing, on Thanksgiving night the dog was licking everyone non stop.. I took the dog into the other room and she tried licking me, at that point I pushed her away and gave her no affection until she was calm and not licking, took about 15 minutes, during the night she would come to me and sit down and not lick, everyone else she licked and they bascially allowed it..... No affection while licking, lots of affection when not licking...seemed to work..

i agree you cant give affection while licking but also negative attention is still attention. when it happens you need to stand up and ignore. do it over and over until they get the picture. licking releases endorvins for dogs and makes them happy. it's a good thing but there is such thing as too much of a good thing. i have a boston who is the same way, good luck! OSD dogs are tough ones!

Thank you both I think we're getting a handle on it. She has gotten better over the last couple days. So hopefully it stays that way! Will try the standing up and ignoring her also. Should get my point across!

I've watched her occasionally! We don't have cable or Internet so I can only use my phone. Will look up the web site though
