Extremely Worried =/
On craigslist I saw an ad advertising 'RED NOSE AND BRINDLE PITBULL PUPS' The ad showed a bunch of very sick looking puppies, very bony and obviously infested with worms, after a few text messages I figured that the puppies were about nine weeks old, had not been vaccinated (nor had they been seen by a vet,) and that the pups had just been given to him.. and they were still wanting fifty each. .-.
I'm going to see them tomorrow... I'm not trying to be judgmental, or make any assumptions, I know that people have all kinds of situations and reasons for the things that they do... but I just don't know how anyone could let things get this bad.
Anything in particular that I should look for tomorrow? I don't want to bring home a puppy with parvo or anything that will get my other dogs sick.

They look wormy to me. The way their bellies are so wide is a very good indicator.

Definitely wormy. Cain had worms when we got him. Dewormed him at first visit and after speaking with my vet dewormed at his second visit too just to be safe. Poor pups.

I would keep them separated from your dogs until a vet and parvovirus is no joke so you might think about going to the vet before you even head home. Or you could not support a BYB and don't get one of these pups. I am not sure if you're looking for a pet to add to your pack or to rescue the litter? I for damn sure would not give any money for one of those pups.

too bad u cant just confiscate them. be like "sir since ur obviously a BYB im going to just take these pups and make sure they end up somewheres better than with u. or if by some chance ur telling the truth and someone gave them to u, then u should give them to me since ur not helping them any." bah! its sad but this situation really happens all the time.

it is very sad! I'm the type of person that would make him an offer for the whole litter. Like $25 per pup but I will take them ALL right NOW. Just because I hate to see where those poor pups are gonna end.

See this all the time. They definitely have some type of parasite. I would not pay anything for one of those pups. I know it's sad but people should not be paid any sort of money for underfed, no shots, no vet care back yard bred dogs. if you want one of these puppies, I would just tell him that you are worried they might get more sick, etc and don't want to waste your money if the pup were to die. That you will gladly take the puppy so that it can go to a vet, etc. You don't want to encourage backyard breeding/not taking care of the pups.
It would be one thing if this guy actually took proper care of them and got them wormed and their shots done. JMO

i understand your concern. and i know you aren't a bad person.
but buying puppies off craigslist is only keeping these kind of people in "business" if you can even call it that.
i myself have a hard time turning my back on pups that need a home. but saving one and empowering BYBs is not an even trade. there's a big picture we should be thinking about.
i respect your personal decision to get the pup or not. but it's something to think about.

I'd have to agree with the above posts. I wouldn't give any money for those pups either. It is very sad that there are so many pup out there suffering but buying dogs off Craigslist only supports more back yard breeding. As long as people keep buying their pups they have a market and will continue to breed. I know a lot of people push "adopt don't shop" but IMO this is almost the same thing. More than likely the pups in the rescue are the last of the pups who couldn't be sold on CL. If more people got pups from responsible breeders the BYBs would loose their reason to produce more pups. If breeding doesn't make them that quick buck and turns into more of a hasstle they'll stop breeding and move on to the next money making sceme. All and all I think if your looking for just a good pet, a rescue will be a much better option than CL. Even though most are BYB dogs as well your not going to run the risk of your home being infected with parvo because they make sure all dogs are UTD before being homed. There's a lot of really great dogs out there in the rescues who deserve a nice family no matter where they came from.

Offer a vet reference instead of money if you are bent on getting one. I wouldn't pay a penny for an already sick puppy.

Why would you even go look? You are setting yourself up for a sickly poorly socialized mess and helping this idiot get rid of his mess. Unless you plan on taking all the pups and parents you aren't making the situation better, if you want a new pup go to a good breeder or the shelter. BYB's will give you whatever story you want to hear to take one home and you are taking a huge risk for your current pets if you bring one of these pups into your house.

As long as there is a market there will always be bybs. If you came and took all their animals they'd just get more and continue to do what's easy.

This is very sad indeed. If you do take one, do not let him be around your other pets until he has been checked by a vet. It looks like a case of worms to me but you can never be sure.

I went to see them at nine this morning, they looked worse than they did in the pictures. They thought that the puppies looked healthy... :\ I don't think so. The puppies were all EXTREAMLY dehydrated, and underfed. I bought a girl and they gave me another free.

Well I hope you get them to the vet ASAP! And definitely quarantine them from your other animals as well as wash your hands before handling the other ones.
