Need help identifying our pit-mix
Hi There,
We have an amazing pink nose pooch named Enzo. We've had him since he was about 7-8 weeks. He was dumped in the desert with three siblings and we rescued all of them. I'm sure that the mom was bred with multiple males because the puppies are all different sizes and have very different characteristics.
Anyway, here's the scoop. At the time we got him, he weighed 14lbs only at 7-8 weeks. Now he is 5 months old and already over 60lbs!!!! We are trying to figure out what he may be mixed with that would make him so huge. Perhaps Argentinian Mastiff? We have no idea. Any help would be much appreciated. He must be mixed, right? I mean I've never seen a pit that is this big.
These pictures are old, but at least you can see what he looks like. This is at anywhere between 3-4 months old.

He's cute but no way to tell what he's mixed with.

I wouldn't bank on him being mixed with any rare breeds. Dogos are uncommon. Far more common are the oversized "pit bulls" that people are breeding these days. He's cute either way. You'll be able to tell with more accuracy when he gets older, but for now, I wouldn't worry about it. You'll never know for certain.

He is a cutie! I call mine a rescue bully. Easiest way to define a larger breed bully of unknown origin. He is 3 and 80lbs.

He reminds me of my girl and I have a similar rescue story and the same question. This is Luna, she was on the beach near the great Coney Island amusement park. At 5 months she's almost 50lbs and a chore to carry.

We aren't looking for a definitive answer...just wondering what others think he might be. Or even if he is mixed at all. The vet says that he is WAY to large to be a standard pit since he is barely 5 months and already over 60 pounds. We just can't identify his characteristics as anything other than pit. However, we do notice that his head and jowls are not as square as most pits...his head is more slender than the average look. The other strange thing is the slope between his forehead and snout is almost straight...like the Target dog's snout sort of.
I know we won't ever be certain, but its still fun to wonder and to look up other breeds to see if it looks like a match.
Anyway, if any of you may have guesses, I'd like to entertain them.

And Chelle,
Your pup is sooo adorable! I'm glad you rescued her. I'm sure she is happy with her new people home.

JoKealoha,
Thanks for the link--it was interesting to read. I appreciate the time. I'm not concerned if Enzo is a purebred or not...I don't care. We rescued him because he needed a home and we love him regardless of "what he is". He's a dog. I already know the info that was on it and people's opinion that came through there--but I still just wondered if anyone had any ideas of what other traits they may see in him, if any.
Thank you for responding, I really appreciate it. =)
PerfectPit, That is an adorable explanation. haha... its cute, a "rescue bully".

bahamutt99,
I had no idea that Dogos were uncommon. Thanks for that info... we'll have to refocus our original thought. Especially seeing he was found in a ravine in the desert, dumped behind a casino with 3 others--doubt he is anything uncommon. I figure that the breeders took their pick of the liter and left them for coyote bait. Jerks.
Cheers!
