Pedigree Perfection

I want to attempt to champion my new puppy. Im new to showing and I cant make up my mind on wether or not to crop. I know on the website it says they cant hold not cropping against you but that doesnt mean it works for you either. What do you think would best her odds at becoming a champion? If cropping is the best option what crop style is ideal? I kind of love her ears and have always been a fan of not cropping. But how a judge and I view things may differ. Thanks for looking.

depends on the condition of the ears naturally .. if they are perfect , leave em .. if they are flawed , crop

If all you're shooting for is a championship, I'd say the choice is completely yours. Nice natural ears wont stop your dog from finishing. If the ears are full-prick, full-drop, etc., you might want to do them. If you were aiming for a top 10 dog, you would probably have an easier time with a cropped dog. But for a CH, having ears wont stop you. Me personally, I show my dogs at a handful of shows a year, but I have to live with them every day, so I make my decisions based on what I want, not what the show ring wants. I finished my dog with her ears intact, and some of the dogs she beat to get there were cropped. (Thankfully she keeps her ears a little more subdued in the ring, whereas they go waaaay up when we're out hiking with stimulus around.) It's only a small piece of the puzzle.

ETA: If you're going to crop, go with a nice show crop. The ears are typically 1"-1.5" long at maturity. A bad crop can detract from the dog's look. Some people prefer a short "battle" crop, but it doesn't necessarily "clean up" the head, and neither does a long crop like a boxer gets. Go to a vet that crops show dogs and ask to see their work.

I agree with Lindsay. I'd rather a person stay true to what they believe in than give in to what is considered "the norm".

When I get my AmBully, it will be in shape and I probably won't do well in shows because it seems to be the norm for them to be fat. But I don't do fat dogs lol.

I prefer cropped, I think it shows off the head nicer and just has a more regal look to them , this is my prefrence though you do as you prefer. I always tell people it is hard to decide as pups cause they are so cute with them at that young age. I would look at pictures of adults and see what you are more drawn too and decide that way, once they are mature it is alot harder to get done and in some cases vets wont do them after a certain age.
