Dog gets snappy if you're anywhere near food

If I even so much as touch some food, my dog snaps at my other dog, not hard, but gets a bit snappy and my dad hates it, and I don't think it's acceptable behavior, we feed them seperately, but if you walk past and touch any food he gets hyper and nippy. Any tips on how to break this?

Also he NEVER shows any signs of aggression unless it has to do with food. He's perfectly well mannered and very well behaved other than that

Towards humans or other animals?

If it's humans I would start to hand feed kibbles to your pup so he knows they come from you and that he needs to be easy and relaxed before you give him one. One at a time, its a PITA but it works

If its other animals then feed them in their crates.

I agree with feeding them in the crates if it is with other animals. And hand feeding is a swell idea. I can see why your dad does not like it and I think that it should be nipped early before it gets out of hand.

Yeah it was only dogs, he's fine with people. And they are all fed seperately, but all the food containers were kept In the dining room, so I decided to move them, as even if you were to reach down by the containers he would get snappy, but I came to the conclusion that he was hungry, as I may have been under feeding him a bit. He normally was getting 1 cup of good grain free kibble with a half cup of fresh veggies, twice a day, so I upped his food intake and it got better almost instantly. He's very active so I'm guessing that wasnt enough for what he needed. Thanks for the advice

Work on NILIF. Hand feed, feed in separate areas. How old is your dog? My boy is 3 and he gets 1 1/2 c 2x/day and raw veggies or yogurt or peanut butter mixed with kibble or veggies frozen as a night time treat.
