Do we need puppy food for Moses?

This is Moses, our 6/7 month old rescue;

Name:  ImageUploadedByPG Free1356094291.102457.jpg
Views: 229
Size:  31.7 KB

(Excuse the background, he was "helping" change sheets, lol)

My question is this: do we need to feed puppy food and how much? We currently feed Acana wild prairie to our other dogs, and right now he's getting three cups a day. He's 35 pounds and was living outside, it was horrible, the conditions he was living in!

Any help would be appreciated!

That depends on who you ask. Me personally, I stopped doing puppy food with my last dog because at the time a lot of the best brands weren't even offering a puppy variety. Most do now because people are hard wired to believe a puppy needs different food. I'm will agree to disagree. I think a good-quality kibble is fine, and what you're feeding sounds excellent. As for how much to feed, start with what the bag recommends and adjust as necessary. I don't even look at the feeding guidelines anymore. I start my dogs at 1 cup twice a day and monitor their weight. Loki is an older, sedentary dog, so I drop her down to 2/3-3/4 cup per meal. Terra is more active, so when she's being worked she gets more like 1.5 cups per meal.

As long as you don't feed large Breed dog for and its a good quality kibble I don't see why you should use puppy food still. Just like said above Monitor weight and go from there.

Thanks! That helps. We started out giving him about three cups a day, although his activity level is not high, he was pretty skinny. While I have owned dogs all my life, this is my first pit, and we want to make sure we do it right!
