So that said; I love my dog and she is my "family"; but I am quite clear that she is another species as that is pretty much the reason I have her. If I wanted children of the human variety...I would have had them.
I am also of the separate but equal mind set. I don't think not being human makes my dog any "less than" a person; or that simply being human necessarily makes someone more "valuable" than my dog.
I realize I have some pretty left of center ideology; but luckily my husband drinks the same kool aid...so we're good.

And that's all that really matters...good honest post.

My hounds are family but nothing less nothing more. If i had a child the child comes first, family members come first above the k9 family.. That said id brutally hurt someone if they tried to shoot one dead.. They aint stealing thats for damn sure.
But no fur daddy shit here.

The way I see it if you think I'm weird for considering my dogs family then you don't have to talk to me they definatly are family. I have better things to do than worry what people think.that's what I say to them. I will split your head just as quick as I would if someone hurt my dog a I Would if it was my kid. You take them to the vet as you would a child, you teach them, they depend on you just like children so yes they are my children.

While yes I do love my dogs and would do everything in my power to keep them safe and happy, there's a line to draw. They are afterall just dogs.I do not think of them as children.I have children and know that without a doubt that if the dogs were to do anything to challenge my childrens place in this household then the dogs would go if it couldn't be corrected.
If you think of your dogs too much like people then you can't do what needs to be done if the situation arises. If your dog was to become aggressive towards a person could you put them to sleep if you thought of them like a child or member of the family?Probably not.I know I probably couldn't.

This in no way means I don't love them and wouldn't do everything for them , I will and I do . They all sleep in the home and take turns on who gets the bed at night with us. They have a ton of toys and treats and the best food but to compare them to my kids they are not even on the same level.

I understand where you are coming from. Since you have kids it is different. With no kids in my home, I can feel comfortable saying they are my kids. If I did have kids, they would not be equals to the kids. I would not put them first above the kids either. Good point made.

Since I don't have any children of my own, I do consider my dogs as children.

Before I had my son my dogs where my babies. How ever like Angel baby I do no humanize my dogs. I know they are dogs and if I really treated them like people I could have a bunch of behavior problems. My son comes first, then my dogs, then the rest of the family, lol. If you don't have kids then animals are the next best thing! But when you do have kids and hold your baby in your arms for the first time.... You will realize you didn't know what love was till just then. You will also realize you didn't think you could love something so much! I love being a mommy to my son and my dogs!

No...you shouldn't "Humanize" your pets. This helps the AR nuts with trying to give our dogs "RIGHTS" when they can't make choices for themselves in the first place. My dogs are my property first (which is great in NC, its a felony to kill a dog that isn't yours because they are considered live stock). I love my dogs...I joke and call them my children because I do not have any, but they will always be dogs and always be my property.

To each his own. I don't believe this thread was started to pass judgement on how people raise their bulldogs. Nothing wrong with "humanizing". Nothing wrong with treating your bulldog like a dog or property...as long as you take care of your property that is. People do the same thing with their children too.

What I mean is , If someone was afraid of my dog because she was a pit and they expected me to leave her in her cage that's not happening .She's not aggressive , or mean she loves people. It's her house , so she comes first . She knows who's the boss of the house and I do set rules for her . She is like my child , I'll do anything to protect her . We buy her food , take her outside , walk her , play with her , give her baths take her to the vet . How is that not like a child ? Lol your taking care of your pet like you would for children ... They rely on you as owners as parents . xo
