Do you consider your pets to be children?
How many of you consider your pets to be your children? I have since day one. I love them more than I could have ever thought. Some think that I am weird when I say that they are like my kids but I do not care. I love them more and more each day.

Always have....since they are!!
I made the choice years ago to not have children, so my dogs and my husband are my family. My parents and sisters think I'm strange, but who cares about that? Not me!

My dogs are my family. I don't have children and may never have them. My dogs occupy a different piece of my heart and soul but don't fill the void of not having human children. They come damn close though.

I don't have kids so I also say its damn close. I know he isn't my kid and I try not to humanize him but I think of him all the time when I'm not with him and look forward to having the night off and what we are doing lol. I try and give him the best and I know if I had kids I would do the same for them. But I know he isn't my kid.

I did till I had a child of my own. There is nothing like the love of your children and I am sure any mother would agree, I think if you don't there is something wrong with you!
Before I had my son my dogs where my babies. How ever like Angel baby I do no humanize my dogs. I know they are dogs and if I really treated them like people I could have a bunch of behavior problems. My son comes first, then my dogs, then the rest of the family, lol. If you don't have kids then animals are the next best thing! But when you do have kids and hold your baby in your arms for the first time.... You will realize you didn't know what love was till just then. You will also realize you didn't think you could love something so much! I love being a mommy to my son and my dogs!

i do view Odin close to a child, since i dont have kids. in fact after my recent relationship (i wont get into that here) he has also become my best buddy! i love bein with him and i love takin him places with me... even my mom, who doesnt trust "pit bulls" and is not a big dog person, lets me bring him over for family events (he has to stay off the carpet lol). but i know hes a dog, that doesnt mean i cant spoil him though!

I love Ecko like I love my family, but I still treat him like a dog. I dress him up, but he has rules to follow and is exercised daily.
The way he pouts you'd think he was a 2 year old though. LOL!

I love my pets and they love great lives, but like angelbaby said, I don't humanize them. I have a son and he is the world to me.

Yes, they are my children...not sure who the mom is though, but word has it she's a real dog.
To me there's nothing more innocent and sinless than an animal, and actually I hold them with higher esteem than most humans. So yeah I probably humanize them, but in this household it works best...I suppose we meet eachother half way at times is the better way to describe it. They bring out the animal in me and I don't let them fight in the streets LOL.
Remember, God gave Adam the gift of animals before he used Adam's rib to create a woman...sorry ladies

Not necessarily, but they are every bit as important to me as children. And I do refer to myself as Mom. I take care of their needs as dogs, but I love them as if they were family.

I do refer to my dogs as my 3 children..I even call my mom their grandma! :P...
but in no way do I forget they are dogs, they have different needs and desires. They get proper exercise daily, the proper amount of food (i admit to giving them some scraps but I also make sure they will never ever be overweight.) I may humanize them a little bit but they are dogs.
I also have gotten them all stockings and christmas gifts that they get to unwrap lmao.
I love my dre my dogs, they are my babies....when I decide to have children though then they will take a step down in the totem pole. My man actually knows that if it were to come down to it...I would take my dogs over him lol...but he is a fellow dog lover and he wouldn't have it any other way.

This in no way means I don't love them and wouldn't do everything for them , I will and I do . They all sleep in the home and take turns on who gets the bed at night with us. They have a ton of toys and treats and the best food but to compare them to my kids they are not even on the same level.

this is where alot of people mess up.. they are dogs and at times must be handled like it.

I don't have children by choice; because quite honestly I don't really have a maternal instinct when it comes to children; and to be honest...I don't like them. I hesitate to say that because most people can't understand it (and they sort of start looking at you like you're a serial killer)...but I just don't have it in me.
So that said; I love my dog and she is my "family"; but I am quite clear that she is another species as that is pretty much the reason I have her. If I wanted children of the human variety...I would have had them.
I am also of the separate but equal mind set. I don't think not being human makes my dog any "less than" a person; or that simply being human necessarily makes someone more "valuable" than my dog.
I realize I have some pretty left of center ideology; but luckily my husband drinks the same kool aid...so we're good.
