I know we have a ton of stories like this on GP but what's one more? Lol

So my coworker brought her dog, Kona, by work today which is aweosme cuz I haven't met her yet. and I was lovin on Kona when one of our lot porters walked up, young guy, and asked straight up "does she bight?" Mind you at this point Kona is hangin out the car window licking my face and I've never met her before today. Lol. Then he asks "is she purebred?" To which my coworker responded "yup, papers and all! 50 bucks on craigslist"........

Me: *facepalm*
Porter: oh yeah she looks it, looks Gotti. Gotti is a very rare breed of pit.
Me to coworker: oh, what registerty are the papers from?
Coworker to me: well ok, I didn't actually get the papers.
Porter: yeah her head look Gottirazorline (whatever the hell that is!)
Me to porter: Gotti and Razors Edge are two different bloodlines bud. And they are American Bully not APBT. If you think this girl is big, you should see my boy and he's a shelter dog. (I wonder what breed he would think Odin is?)

It was at this point that I said good bye to my coworker and walked back inside to my parts counter. For those who don't know already I work at a car dealership. But its funny, this coworker is a friend and we make fun of stupid things customers say about cars.... I didn't expect the ignorance from her too....... the porter, well he's young and stupid. Lol.

I was a little ignorant too when I first got my dog. Then a show Am Bully came to puppy class and I soon got the idea. Completely different for sure.

Some questionable guy thought my dog was game because of the focus in her eyes. I got her off a Craigslist ad unpapered. I just wanted a nice puppy and had no idea about bluenose or Razorsedge or Gotti. I doubt she was game bred but she's agile as mad and I would surely say she's got hard prey drive, but if another dog came up to her she's all wags and play. She was also the runt of her litter. Surely doesn't act like it though.

But I think it's natural and fine to correct others on their misconceptions. I surely appreciate it. For ignorance, well, maybe he was trying to impress your coworker.

Yeah this is true, I know we were all ignorant once. And ur right he might have very well be just spouting crap and same with my coworker when she lied about having paperwork. But I've never been one to exagerate what I have. I think ur pup is a cutie and some people put too much stock in the whole runt thing...

One thing we can count on is for these stories to remain prevalent. It gets hard for me to not be a jerk about the lack of knowledge people who own these type of dogs have but I have to remind myself that I was once one them.

It just happens as mi16raisen said we where all ignorant at some point and needed to learn , but I do think it comes to a point where you just leave people to their own fairytale in order to impress people..
I had a funny one at some point a few months back when a so called PITBULL breeder saw my boy and came to the conclusion that he was mixed ( without me saying anything ) because the opening on his lips was too far back towards his jaw base :-) !!

The problem is, people who know nothing or know only what the people who sold them the puppy off Craigs list told them, out number the people with any sort of knowledge by a very substantial margin.... and they are the ones breeding more puppies and selling more ignorance.

Ur right Zohawn, I now know why some choose to avoid talking dogs with others now. And yes Tina, it saddens me to know that that statement is true. The people who know very little far out number those that do know. And they will always tend to believe who they first heard it from. Off subject, but kinda like at work "but the guy at jiffy lube said...." ur gunna believe the guy at jiffy lube over the toyota trained service technician?!

look at it this way, everyone has their one or two things they know extensively, and then a TON of other things they know a lot of misconceptions about lol.

anytime i talk bodybuilding with someone i get the same eye rolling and facepalm look when i hear some of the crap i do, but when it comes to this breed of dog i'm still pretty ignorant lmao. but when i'm corrected or informed by knowledgeable people, i'm willing to learn.

just something everyone should keep in the back of their mind, everyone has to start learning somewhere. no one's BORN with absolute knowledge . but for those who want to insist that their misconceptions are in fact truth, i could care less about embarrassing them with knowledge.
