Both of my dogs have their ears done. From what I have found most vets will do it from 7-12wks with 16wks being the OLDEST. There are some vets that will crop any dog at any age if you can find them. The problem with cropping older is the cartalidge in the ear had already hardened so its very hard to get them to stand.

If you are thinking about croping always call the vet first. The kennel owner is not a reliable medical source. The vet will tell you what ages and what weight is acceptable.
Your pup is just BARELY over ten weeks I would call the vet immediatly and ask them if they will still take him.

i did my pups ears at 11 weeks. and some vets will do it until they are 16 weeks... just keep looking for a place where they do them older. as far as ur breeder saying ur pup had to be 18lbs i have never heard of that. the only thing i think is a requirement is if they have two sets of their boosters. so make sure u get the shots going. my dog was 14lbs when we did her ears and they came out jsut fine

good luck

oh yeah where do u live?

Just curious......aside from the look, is there a benefit to cropping from anyones point of few?
Here, cropping is making *Devil Dogs* and is done *so their ears wont be torn in a fight*, I had never thought of it until Sage came to us missing 1/2 an ear, knowing what little we do if her back round they would have done her a favor to crop them, She is the first pit we have taken in and is teaching us SO much, but theres so much left to learn about her and her breed, everyday is something new

Who knew they like to sleep in the blankies!!

inkaddiction, the purpose to crop dogs ears NOW AND DAYS is purely comsetic. i personally did it becuase it looks cleaner and the if teh crop is done right, the dog just looks sharp. Also, back when dog fighting was a big thing, the didnt really crop the ears. I think it became a new age dog fighting thing, but even now, u can tell what ears are cropped for just by lookin at them. Most dog fighters crop their dogs ears SHORTER than a battle crop(the shortest crop) just becuase they dont want the ears to be ripped off.. i mean the ears look like little nubs so, when someone has a dogs ears like that there is a story behind it.

but for the most part, ppl crop for the look. thats all hope i asnwered ur question

I got Neelas ears cropped for looks, but it actually has helped us/her in more ways than you can imagine. Her ears are the first sign that she's getting ready to have an allergy fit. They turn red... But I think with the internal ear exposed to the air it helps her ears come back from the yeast infections quicker because they aren't folded over.

Cropped ears are cosmetic but I personally love the cropped look. We have 18 dogs in our kennel and only a handful have natural ears. I do find the only dogs that get ear infections are my natural eared dogs. I have also heard from other breeders they find less ear infections with cropped ears. But of course that is not scientific just observation. It also is a benefit with some judges in the UKC. Natural eared dogs have a harder time CH, it's not impossible but more difficult.
