Neuter
I have never had a male dog get neutered just my females got spayed. I have to drop off a foster in the morning for his and they told me he couldnt have anything to eat/drink after midnight? They never did this with my females.
Also, how long will it take to heal and should he stay on crate rest?He has a home lined up for him to go to saturday and im just watching him until then.

weird, any anesthesia would require a empty belly n case they get sick on the table. Not a spay neuter thing, so weird your female was not told the same thing.
With a boy its a lot easier and less evasive than it is for a girl, but I was told NO couch or bed jumping up, he should be helped down if he gets up. no rough housing or playtime, no running, no fetch, just easy walks and no baths for 10 days. it SUCKED cause my boy acted like nothing was wrong by day 2 and didn't understand why I was making him play so gently, lol. All pups are different, I gave my boy his pain meds day 1 and day 2 but he started to get CRAZY so I didn't give them day 3 and he took it easier, I am guessing cause he could feel it without the meds. When I gave him the meds he acted like he was a super pup and could do anything I was afraid he would rupture his glue..

Yeah it was weird, she ate the morning of surgery,no one told me not too and it was the first dog I had ever got spayed. And the other came from the shelter and they kept food in the kennels at all time so I dont know.
Thanks! I hope they give him meds,my girls never got meds either, maybe its just the vets?Hes not quite crate trained so this will be interesting lol
(if the girls got meds it was while at the vets, because I asked and they said that it wasnt needed.)

Why is there an opposition to spaying or neutering?

That is very odd that you did not have to have your females not have anything to eat after midnight. I have always had my pets, male or female, go with out food from like 10pm on.
I agree that you will have to monitor him and help him out. Our male loved couch time but after he was fixed, he did not even attempt to get up on the couch for a few days.

I agree it is def weird but I am guessing it was the vet,as the one who did my girls surgery has a bad rep now because he is cheap but the quality isnt so great. Plus he dosent talk to you or explain things,so I took him to my old vet who I absolutely love but he is expensive, which is the reason I originally switched,.
I dropped him off this morning, and I pick him up at noon tomorrow, I will have to take him back to work with me for an hour or 2 until I get off.

Hard to find a good cheap vet. Around here they are sky high! I am very fortunate with mine. Family has taken Animals to them for over 20 years and they are cheap and WONDERFUL. Hope his neuter goes smooth my boy will be going after the new year.

You should always with hold food and water for surgery, if they throw up (which happens a lot) with the anesthesia they could aspirate it and cause major complications including death. Now you know why no food or water that's pretty standard unless like you said it was a cheap clinic with bad care.... I hate those cheap S/N clinics many have very poor care.... but anyway minimize the running around I would do crate rest for a god 4 days for a male, a female I would do a week. good luck
