Not an expert by any means but I have raised 2 pits from pups... In my experience it was never the dog food that would give them the runs as little guys, but other things that they ate or got into - they were into everything. I was an over-protective puppy mom and took ours to the vet for every little issue. Our vet told us to give kaopectate, fresh water and withhold food until the runs went away. (check with a vet for dosing or for use of ANY medication)

However... I know that use of people meds is controversial. Hopefully one of the breeders or more experienced dog owners will post some other advice real soon.

Side note - my husband just reminded me that our red-nosed pit had the runs more than the other one and in most cases we found out later it was from eating a toy. He had multi-colored runs once and we realized he had been eating some multi-colored puppy toys. It took 2-3 days to clear the system. Now all toy playing is under supervision - as it should have been all along.

Hope some of this helps... and hope your pup feels better soon.

Allergic to Dairy

When Rocket was a puppy he ended up being allergic to dairy. We didn't put it together until his second bag of dog food and a series of processes. We ended up getting having to find food with no dairy in it. He has grown out of it, but it is challenging.

If he has not been exposed to any external things he could be eating as the previous person suggested, you can possibly try switching gradually to a natural dog food.

There are much better foods out there, if you want to give your pup the best start in life. Here are a few resources for you to research. We can't tell you what to feed. That's up to your budget, the availability of foods I your area, and what works best for her. I feed my dogs grain-free foods.

If she has diarrhea for a day, that's not necessarily cause for worry. If it persists, you should take her to a vet. Diarrhea is a broad symptom for many problems, including scary stuff like Parvo. You can't be too careful with the little ones. Good luck!

she's a cutie.
like baha said, a day or 2 of the runs isn't a major problem. as long as she's still eating and drinking.
if it goes further, dehydration will be the first concern. you should go to the vet at that point. but you can also give her a pepto bismol chewable. and a little pedialyte in her water to rehydrate.
inspect her poop for blood, green or yellow mucus. if something doesn't look right take a stool sample with you to the vet. and keep an eye on her for more symptoms.
good luck.
PS: i see the orange and blue blanket. GO GATORS!
my brother plays for Florida and i will be in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl.
