excessive pooting
So I am a newbie and I am almost certain that this question has been asked probably 100 times over. But, my baby girl (15 weeks) farts all the time. Asleep or awake. Is it the breed or dog food?

They do seem to be notoriously gassy, but diet can make it worse.

Lmao!! I think food makes it way worse. I never EVER give any sort of crap dog treats or rawhide bones. The dogs love them but OMG my 2 can clear the house out they are soooo disgusting! I don't feed the best dog food in the world but as much as I go through its what I'm comfortable buying. I feed Nutro Ultra and my dogs fart often but as long as I steer clear of treats and rawhide their farts honestly don't stink that bad...either that or I love them so much I'm immune LMAO!!

I feed her blue buffalo wilderness puppy. I actually don't give her any treats I use the kibbles from her food as reward. And her food I add a little water to make it a little softer but she will eat it dry too.

Diet has a lot to do with it, especially if it is a high protein diet. I had my pup on Eukanuba a.k.a "Poopanuba" for a while because it was the food the breeder had him on, and wow that was not a pleasant few months. but once i changed his diet it became far better.

Different dogs are gassy on different foods. Try adding a few spoonfuls of plain yogurt with live cultures or probiotics and see if that helps.

My boy had super toots on blue buffalo. I switched to Acana and he hardly ever toots anymore. Sucks cause now I have no one to blame my toots on anymore

Ecko's farts aren't as smelly as they used to be now that he's on raw, but when he eats kidney or liver, don't be locked in the car with him. LOL!
I'm certain most bull breed owners will tell you their dog can clear a building faster then the fire alarm. In most cases the odor is from digestion and food.
The probiotics idea is a good one.

I have noticed that since we made the switch to raw Nikki has been farting a lot less!! My computer desk sits about 6 feet from where he normally sleeps and there were many times that he would drive me right out of the room!!

I agree with Ames, when I switched Odin to Acana from TotW the farting went away for the most part. Unless of course he gets a special treat or somethin lol.

Defying Gravity

Is she a rapid eater? Sometimes dogs who bolt their food take in too much air and this causes gas. Wetting the food, as you say you do sometimes, can slow the rate of consumption. There are also bowls called slow feeders which cause dogs to have to eat around nubbies and slows them down. One of my dogs hardly ever farts; she cut her first fart when she was 3 years old. The other farts when she's eating a lamb-based diet, no matter what the brand is. So sometimes its the specific protein source, too. If you like the Blue Buff, maybe give the Basics a try and see if less ingredients calms the gas down a bit.
