I think that 1 month of going through not being able to do the things that they once did, is time to lay them to rest. I don't know if you've read the Cesar Millan book, but there's a chapter in there that covers putting dog's to rest. The interesting point that I took out of it, was where it mentions that dogs don't get depressed when we find out that they have cancer or illness, they keep living, but once they aren't able to function like normal, they begin to realize and possibly suffer. So his suggestion is to put them down before they go through any of that, and they will pass on having lived a happy life. I'm sorry that you're going through this, and hope that you're able to stay strong through it all.
