Heart Broken
I posted this, this morning as part of my happy birthday thread for my Lola. After posting it though I realized that it would be better to post it here. So if anyone has read the other post sorry for the repost. After getting home from work I noticed that Lola was walking with a limp and would FREAK out if i touched her foot. So to the vet we went, come to find out after an x-ray she has a dislocated rear outside toe and that is not the worst of it while waiting for the x-ray the vet noticed somthing not quite rite with her legs when sitting. So he took another look and to rip out my heart even more I was told that she has Medial Patella Luxation. He said it might not be that bad and if it is it wont really start being a problem till she gets older. So needless to say it was not the best Birthday or weekend for our household. I will post pics soon though and thanks for all the posts everyone. Oh , on a slightly brighter note she is walking almost perfect this morning and is starting to act like her old self again..
Does anyone have any personal exp.. with this condition and if so what do you know about it? I have been reading everything that i can find on this and it has made me feel both better and worse.

I dont see any problemwith it. the dog needs to be kept quite, caged as much as possible and excersise- something gentle like wading in the water has a resistance to strengthen the muscles during extension and flexion. more muscle will stabilize the kneecap and hold it in place naturaly. dont opt for any surgery as it will cause tracking probs and joint wear that will be an issue later in life

Well I looked it up and that is not what the vets called it when Mikado was having his trouble they said it was a dislocated cruciate(sp?). I would take him down to the lake and we walked in sand. I wouldn't let him jump into the van or on the hay bales. I did let him run around the yard but only with the smaller dogs so he wouldn't get hurt. That was 3 1/2 yrs ago I kept that up for a year. He has been fine since. He runs plays and jumps on the big round bales with no problems. Good luck with Lola. Sending good thoughts your way.
