Talked to a Terrier Nutritionist...
So my trip to the local pet store yesterday turned into a 3 hours occasion. I currently use BLUE BUFFALO dog food for my baby pit. She really enjoys it and from looking up and doing my research it is right up there with wellness super5mix and Dicks Natural Balance. i was looking at some different flavors for her, and an old man came up to me and asked what kind of dog i had. I mentioned a pit, and assumed he would give me the "great, another thug dog owner" sarcastic look but his eyes lit up and a smile stretched from one ear to another. HE explained he was a TERRIER NUTRITIONIST and would love to help me out with my food mission. He started with saying, as a larger breed dog, they in fact need a LOWER protein food percentage, cuz their bones grow at a fast rate already and with extra protein the tendents wont grow at the same rate, causing TONS of issues. (i thought the complete opposite until he broke it down to me.. makes sense huh?) He said to keep the percentage in the low 20s.
Then he told me about two brands in particular. one is called PINNACLE (it wasnt in the store so he kept his conversation at a whisper) explained that the meat is cooked under 100degrees SLOWLY to keep all the important nutrients still there *standard dog food cooks meet at 180 destroying all those good things in it* and so on. he went on and on and handed me a pamphlet and a 4lb bag for sample.
the other food he mentioned (was in the store) and it was called Active Care. he directed me to this because i mentioned my pit is going to train to be my police k9. He said almost all the police depts use it because it helps prevent any joint issues and arthritis (spl?).
SO ALL IN ALL. i am trying out PINNACLE, and for those who have their dogs pulling wait herding cattle, etc, try active care. couldnt hurt to try right????

I don't know ANY pits that herd cattle lol..boy that would be a site to see though!
I don't think I could consider a APBT a 'Large' breed dog, Ambully yes though.
Well here's the break down on Pinnacle puppy
Important Information:
Your dog's nutritional requirements will vary according to age, breed, environment and activity levels. Feed adult dogs once per day or divide equal portions and feed twice per day. When switching to Pinnacle, gradually increase the amount of Pinnacle while decreasing the previous food over a 3 to 5 day period.
Ingredients:
Chicken Meal, Chicken, Potatoes, Oats, Chicken Fat (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Ascorbic Acid), Tomato Pomace, Organic Quinoa, Salmon Oil, Dried Egg Product, Potassium Chloride, Rosemary Extract, Sage Extract, Vitamin E Supplement, Bromelain, Papain, Dried Bacillus Subtilis Fermentation Product, Dried Aspergillus Oryzae Fermentation Product, Calcium Carbonate, Choline Chloride, Zinc Oxide, Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Iron Sulfate, Vitamin A Acetate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Manganous Oxide, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Copper Sulfate, Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Riboflavin Supplement (Source of Vitamin B Complex), Niacin, Calcium Pantothenate, Folic Acid, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Source of Vitamin B6), Thiamine Mononitrate (Source of Vitamin B1), Biotin, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite, Cobalt Carbonate
Guaranteed Analysis %:
Crude Protein 42
Crude Fat 22
Moisture 10
Omega-6 fatty acids 5.12
Crude Fiber 2
Omega-3 fatty acids 0.5
hmmm, not the worst I've seen but not the best either. Go with it if thats what you want I guess

If I were going to feed Pinnacle, I would do the Protien Plus. The trout is the lowest-rating if you go based on the Dog Food Analysis website. Not saying that's the end-all be-all, but it's a helpful guide. The Blue Buffalo is a good food anyway, though. So if you're not looking to make a change, you'd be just fine to keep your dog on that. If you get to the point where she's really working hard, you could use BB's Wilderness formula.
