Switching from puppy food to ???
So i just took Kilo to get his last set of vaccines, he just truned six months and my vet informed me that he is now an adult:-( and i should switch him to adult dog food since he has been eating three times as much puppy food as before. Ive had him on purina puppy chow then switch to purina large dog formula and he just dosent eat as much of it as i think he should. Is this because its more hearty or because he dose not like it ... is there neway i can tell without switching threw a million differant foods ???
Any advice is much appreciated

Our vet told me that we should keep Karma on puppy food untill shes about 1 yr old he told me they are not really done growing till about 8 mos or so. We also had Karma on Purina Puppy Chow and she she always seemed hungry and pooped alot (5-6 x's a day) we switched her to Iam's puppy and she eats about 2 cups a day and the pooping is down to about 2 x's a day now.

Put him on a good all-stages formula and be done with it. Something like Nature's Variety, Innova, etc. Or if you don't want to do that, switch him to the adult formula at 12 months.

6 months seems a lil early to me to be switching to an adult food, I agree with Baha that 12 months is more realistic for a puppy to adult food switch. I personally feed Merrick which is All Life Stages food. Whatever you do please stay away from Purina, Pedigree, Iams, Eukanuba, etc They are garbage!...Good brands = Innova, Merrick, Wellness, Taste of the Wild, etc etc etc.

I would agree as well. I would look for a food that has the meat ingredent listed first or second on teh ingredents list. Thats what I've benn told.

Diamond is no better than Purina, IMO. The only food they make that's any good is the Diamond Naturals. Consider some of the brands mentioned here. Nature's Variety, Innova, Wellness, Merrick, Taste of the Wild. There's also Solid Gold, Premium Edge, Pinnacle, Canidae, lots of stuff. If you want it broke down really simply, go here -- Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble -- and read their reviews section. It rates all dog food on a scale of 1-6 stars.
I think I'd get a second opinion. No offense, but your vet sounds a little hokey. A 6 month old dog is not physically or mentally mature. Consider for a moment what brands your vet sells, and then compare those brands to the ratings on the link above. Most vets sell food like Science Diet because they get incentive to do so, not because that's necessarily the best food out there. Some vets are smart enough to know when a food is good or not, but I don't think a large part of their schooling is dedicated to nutrition.

We also have our dogs on Purina. I have read now that it is a big no no. Where can you find the dog foods you suggested?

Thanks for the help on dog foods. This is something I have been trying to figure out. I found a local feed store that carries several of the mentioned brands. Hopefully I will be switching this week
