what is your price range? i pay alot (26 lbs for $47) for my dogs food but he eats blue buffalo wilderness and it is a 6 star food he loves it and so do i. go on the dog food anaylsis website Dog Food Reviews (i would post the link but it wont let me) check out the foods on this website it gives you a break down of the quality of the food. I wouldn't go with anything under a 4-5 star food as far as quality but as far as the pricing I would find a food or foods that you may want to try and then look on say petsmart or go to your feed shop something like thats website to see how much they sell it for. IMO a high quality kibble will keep you out of the vets office so in the long run you will save some money. When you make the change of foods make sure you do it gradually. Good Luck. : )

What about something like Premium Edge? That's a pretty decent feed, and it costs around $1 a pound.

i had my pup on Blue Buffalo and it was a good food and is fairly priced. as far as the wilderness version of it i dont think they make it for puppies. The only thing i didnt like about Blue was that at my Petsmart they only offered the chicken recipe and I think my dog is alergic to chicken so i switched to a WONDERFUL BRAND called orijen its got great ingredients and everyone i talk to loves it. but its kinda pricey. i would go on the health and nutrition threads and the sticky at the top talks about the kinds of food that are good to feed and grades them for u. I would take the list and head to a store and see what ur pocket cant buy! good luck!

Blue Wilderness doesn't make a "puppy" formula however I still give it to my puppy because IMO lifestage food is just a marketing ploy. I Mean seriously whats the actual difference? I used to in the beginning have my puppy on a puppy food he didnt do very well on it once I made the switch to Wilderness he was a different dog he actually ate his food with out forcing him to. Now that is just my dog but I had good results with it.

You gotta watch... i wouldnt recommened feeding your pup adult dog food... puppy food is higher in fat content and protein content for your actively growing pup! Also most large breed puppy foods are for puppies who are going to grow more than 50 lbs (which most APBT do) so they actually use less calcium in the puppy food than in the adult food because excess calcium can cause problems for growing bones also high intake of calcium in large breeds has been associated with hypercalcemia, concomitant hypophosphatemia, rise in serum alkaline phosphatase, retarded bone maturation, higher percentage of total bone volume, retarded bone remodeling, decrease in osteoclasts, and retarded maturation of cartilage." So i would highly recommend feeding you APBT a large breed puppy food!
I feed Capone Blue Buffalo large breed life protection formula with the life source bits and he loves it!

I feed my pups adult dog food because most high protein diets can fatten a young dog too soon and posibly cause joint problems. Many puppy foods have too much calcium and proteins ...neither of which is good for a growing dog. If your dog does well on Beneful I would not switch him. In my opinion "if it aint broke don't fix it!" Pups should grow slowly.

Yeah I agree with sampson's dad I feed an all life stages Innova in the green bag it can be given to pups or adults .. but I don't agree with giving pups loads of protien because it's too hard on their system. And pups are not working dogs at that age they are just that pups and don't need loads of protien. And you have to watch kibble it can pack the weight on fast! I feed my pups once a day because of the quality feed they are given they only need 1-2 cups based on their weight per day. Just watch your pups intake and make sure your not overfeeding him/her.

IMO each dog is an indvidual and its dietary needs are to be met as such. What may be good for one dog may be bad for another. Puppy food was not working for my dog so I moved him to an all stage food and his conditon greatly improved. My boy is also active and he benefits from the high protein low carb diet. Maybe that diet wont work for the next puppy but I dont want to change someone elses dogs diet. Just sharing my experiences

Put it like this when your feeding a high quality feed you don't need to feed as much kibble as you would a lower quality. For example my kibble breaks it down into weight and the amount of activity my dogs get in a day are they low? mod? or extremely active? and I feed according to the guidlines set by the brand of kibble I feed that mixed with their weight. Each dog is different. I have 2 girls right at 30 lbs at 7 months old and I have a male who is 35 lbs at 7 months old. But depending on how a dog is bred they may be on the heavier side. It just depends. Just make sure whatever your feeding it's at least a 5 star feed and your feeding according to their weight and the amount of activity they are getting a day. I personally love Innova it's really good stuff and I wouldn't use anything else. But their are many other great feeds out their to choose from. You just have to find what works for your dog and your budget.

At four months old I would feed him as much as he will eat in 10 minutes then pick up the food. I do that 3 times a day until they turn 6 months then I cut them back or give extra depending on how they look. Personally if I can not see the last two ribs my dogs are too fat and I cut them back. If you easily see the form of thee ribs (and or back bones--way too thin) they are too thin.
When the dog is healthy, happy, peeing and pooping normal and the ribs are not poking out that is my goal.

wow could my puppy eat a whole bag of dog food in a 10 minute period...LOL! (And of course would then puke it back up!)
But like everyone has already said...go with a good quailty puppy food, or ALS. Beneful is just full of fillers, and you will notice with a higher quality food they will actually be able to utilize more of the food, and poop less!!

I'm seriously going to time my dogs one day. I know Loki will have her bowl spit-polished in under a minute. Youngins take a little longer just because they get more food than her. LOL
