Exclamation HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well this is Onyxes first injury and i need advice i havent seen him in three days but my boy firend called me saying his toe is sort of swollen and is hurting hiom he think onyx jammed it while running full speed in the yard when he tripped in a decent sized hole. well he has a vet appointment on friday hopefully it will be better by then but the vets told us it was safe to give him tylenol so he had half a tablet yesterday but i got told by a number of people tylenol is toxic to dogs the woman i spoke to at the vets said it was fine but i know they can be wrong often is it really toxic that is the problem should he not get any pain killers his toe is really bothering him he wont let any one touch it and when he runs he only uses three legs ive been trying to keep him less active though because i dont want his toe to get hurt even more. i think either it is jammed, broken, or he got stung by a bee or mud wasp. i havent seen it yet but i really dont know what else could have happened to it.

so tylenol yes or no??!? please answer quickly im kind of really anxiouse right now!!

This is what Wiki answers had to say
"Acetaminophen (Tylenol) should not be given to dogs, it has a degree of toxicity and may severely damage the dog's liver and blood red cells, it may even be fatal. There are analgesics and fever control drugs less risky for dogs. Tylenol is also highly toxic to cats."

When Sways leg got all swollen I gave her an epsom salt soak. Filled a bucket with really warm water and the salts and made her stand with her leg in it for a while. She was fine in the next couple of days.

I don't know, however, I wouldn't give it to him. Is he crying non-stop? If not, then let him tough it out.

Tylenol is a big NO NO since it is hepa toxic to dogs.
Whom ever said this to you needs to read more because she could kill some ones animal giving bad advice. My advice is to not give any pain meds so that the dog will not use the leg. Rest in a kennel until the vet visit is best. Leash walk only. When a dog gets pain meds they can use an injured leg and make it worse.
Remember leash walk and cage rest and No meds.
When the vet sees the dog he/she might give him rymadil or etogesic or some similar antiinflamatory drug. But I say let them limp to allow for proper recovery.

Benedryl is not for pain it is for allergic reactions and itchy skin.

Never use anything with Acetaminophen on dogs it is toxic to them and can kill them. And yes SD is correct benadryl is an Antihistamine used to treat allergic reactions rashes ect..... The vet will be your best bet for pain medications if needed. Hope he recovers ok

I would keep him in his crate and just not give him anything until his vet apt...he might be in pain. but at least he will be alive

The Vet probably gives the poodle Benedryl to minimize a vax reaction the dog may have had in the past. That is a common precaution for dogs that have shown minor vax reactions before.

um..food for thought, i didn't know that, i just figured it's b/c she like super old, can barley walk and can't really see, so poor thang is in alot of old age pain. she doesn't give it to her often, it's only when like the weather is changing or she notices that mickesha is haveing prbs. getting around. i think i'll call her tonite and ask about that..b/c she loves that dog so much shes' been with her for over 10 yrs. which is really old for a tea cup poodle.

Believe it or not some of those little
dogs live 16 years in relative good health.
The asprin is some thing people give to the dogs for pain but some dogs get ulcers from it so we suggest an enteric coated asprin.
