Alaunt dogs????

So from my understanding these were one of the old bulldogs from the middle ages. I've also read many articles saying these dogs went extinct quite some time ago. Well I was looking at different sites, sometimes when I'm bored I like to sit and read old bulldog articles and dog history info Any who I came across a site with a few different people advertising litters of pure bred Alaunts??? How can this be if they went exstint?? They kinda just looked like APBTs with long legs lol. One was black with a small white patch and the other was an average looking brindle dog. All the pics I've seen of the old Alaunts were white and brindle or white and red/tan pie bauld dogs. Is this just some new variation of the old world breed? And if so, where does it come from? Have these newer Alaunts been around before our APBTs or do they originate somewhere else? I'm freakin confused as heck cause I thought that was a dead breed. Any insite would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the alaunts they have now are more like an anatolian shepherd than a bulldog .. The true strain went extinct.. Just like the true strain of DDB went extinct and they saved the breed with a Bullmastiff that was from the same decendant.

Fighting dog of Gaul sired by the alaunt.. the Fighting dog of Gaul became the Dogue de Bordeaux.. Here is one of the last pictures of an authentic DDB that is NOW extinct.

Alaunt sired the fighting bulldog and the early mastiff/bandog ... which was given new fresh stock as time went by from the bigger fighting bulldogs.

Early Mastiff..

Early Bulldog

Early Boxer

.................................................. ...................

NOTE: the similarities of the dogs bred for fighting as there were two different alaunt types fighting and property guardian. The early mastiff harbored the later while the bulldogs harbored and purified the fighting dog traits.. ALSO BRINDLE was kept seperate from other bulldog blood until the 1900s.

.................................................. .................................................. ...................

Did you see American Allaunts? those are just replicas a bandog much like a Dogo Canario compared to a Presa Canario if you know the difference. OR did you see Alaunts ?

a great read... I thoroughly enjoyed. Its amazing that he and I have many of the same conclusions.. regarding breed, history, and genetics.. and that there were spanish dogs in the Americas before irish or english and those were the original bulldog format before english or irish hands and back in colonial old family was Spanish as the Old Country was Spain .. There were Spanish bulldogs attackin Indians and being traded to the Indians as long as there have been freed horses in america from wrecked ships and disaterous attempts to colonize. The Appaloosa has older DNA than any other mustang or american bred horse other than arabians, and it is being proven that vikings brought their little mt ponies over long before the spanish ..
I LOVE history!
Thanks for sharing!
