Hello all,

I've been exploring ways to care for a 5 week old removed from its Mother.
I disagree with separating a pup this early.
It is Mums first litter.
I have the Sire.
Mums family says she wont nurse and ask me to please take my pick.
I am concerned deeply about the pups early nutrition.

They aren't supposed to be nursing at 5 weeks. I pull off mom at 4-5 weeks, regardless. They STILL need to be with their littermates to learn bite inhibition and how to be a dog. REFUSE to let this person give the pups to new homes at this age!! They are simply being lazy, because they need to step up and start cleaning up after the pups. It is also usually illegal to rehome before they are 8 weeks of age!

Puppies are hard work, and this person needs to have their dogs neutered if they're not up to the task.

BTW- Welcome to the forum, and feel free to start your own thread introducing yourself.

Indie hit it on the head. I don't know as much about breeding or the nutrition/care of a pup that young but I do know it's illegal in many places to sell or place a pup prior to 8 weeks of age and you are going to run into other problems, like bite inhibition, having a pup separated from his litter/mom that young.
