I'm new here, meet my blue/fawn Missy
Hello, I'm new to this whole thing. I'm looking to get more educated on this breed. I have a 1 1/2yr old blue/fawn pit-daughter named Missy Mae, she is the best thing that has happened to me besides my 3 boys. And does she love them kids! She is the best babysitter/protector I could ever find. I've not been an animal owner since I was young, my husband rescued her from being put in a kill shelter. I like many, was scared and ignorant when it came to this breed, bc I had something happen to me when I was 13, I'm now 31. So I was upset when I came home from work and here is this 5 month old pit bull running around my house! The 1 good thing I can say about this owner before she threw her to the curb, was she had her in puppy school. So Missy was potty trained & chew trained, so with that I was like YES no potty training & she don't chew on everything lol, after just a few days I fell completely in love with her! Now it's a wrap! She is my heart, has been the perfect addition to our family. But I need help with some stuff 1st she hates the leash! How do I train her on a leash? She must have missed that in puppy school lol, my 16yr son & husband have to run with her instead. We walk her every day and she has a fenced in back yard we let her out in all through the day and she still pulls us and play bites at the leash, please help Thanks she stays up my butt! Where ever I go she goes no matter what! 1 more, she runs the house 😍

If I were you I would get a gentle leader, they are kind of pricey but so worth it. My pit mix weighs 80 lbs and he's a beast and on a regular leash he'd pull me down the street but on a gentle leader we have the most peaceful walks. If you look it up it may look like a muzzle IT'S NOT!!! It takes a while to get used to but so worth it!!! I've used it on all my pits!!

Glad to see my assistance enabled you to finally post. Your pup is adorable and I'm so glad that you gave her a chance instead of demanding she be removed from your home.
There are several different methods to leash training, and I recommend you check out the Training Section. There's some great advice in there. I've got absolutely no experience using a head or halti-leader, so I'm of no use there. I've always leash trained my dogs the traditional way, with a flat buckle collar and lead, allowing them to wear it around the house, and working with them in intervals by playing games with them getting them to come to me or follow me, and progressing from there.
I'm a bit confused, as you say she hates the leash, but yet you walk her daily. Are you saying she pulls on the leash when you walk her? There are many ways to break that, one that I find handy being the About Turn. When my dogs pull on the lead, I quickly turn and walk the opposite direction saying "This Way". Now, with my APBT girl, I don't so much do that, as I wouldn't want to mess her up on her Weight Pull training. I'm sure I could teach her to differentiate the two, but I'm not too worried about it, as she does fine with me, aside from slight pulling. My mutt boy is a different story. I'm more strict with him, as he's bigger and harder to control because of my bad back, so I use a pinch collar with him, which makes it easier to handle him, and keeps him from pulling so bad.
If you have the time or funds available, I would suggest enrolling her in a basic obedience class, or with a personal trainer, and concentrate on the walking on a loose lead part. There are trainers here on the forum that can help you locate one in your area, if need be. I'm not familiar with the trainers in Knoxville, or surrounding areas, as I train my own dogs, but I do know there's a place in Jefferson City that's a boarding kennel and training facility, that you may consider looking into. I believe they're called All About the Dogs or something like that. Circle M may know for sure, as she lives in Jeff County, but I'm not sure.
I hope this helps you out some. If we can be of any more assistance, please let us know.

Thanks so much for all the advice. Now I'm going to sound really dumb for a sec bc I have no idea the difference between all the leashes and stuff you all was talking about, lol I have a standard leash from Walmart, that clips on her buckle collar. I'm sorry I should have been clear when I said that about hating the leash and me walking her. When I get the leash out for the walk she's jumping around, play biting at it very excited then when we put it on her it's madness! She pulls us like a sled dog! So I restate that she don't hate the leash she just doesn't walk well on it. My husband and son run with her bc she pulls so hard and fast they try to get some energy out of her. She's a very smart dog she sits, stays (for the most part) fetches, lays down, dances pretty that's what we call it when we hold a treat up high and she stands on her hind legs and dances in circles then we reward her & she has a few more small things she does. She listens very well except for on the leash. My husband and I are huge fans of The Dog Whisper, with Caesar and he talks about stoping and making them wait, not letting her pass me ect.. I do find it works some of the time. Thanks for the info of people around Knox, I'm going to see if I can find someone for her to work with. Thanks for all the help!! I love this site and very glad I found this! It's a new friend ship I'm so glad to be apart of & get educated on my doggie 😃

I love her ears! My husband wanted them clipped when we got her and I didn't, I said it would make her look mean and I love her floppy ears so I wouldn't let him, I'm glad we didn't bc when she looks at me and they stick up I just melt

Yeah, sounds like you need to get her in a basic obedience class, or signed up with a personal trainer to work on walking on a lead w/out pulling.
You may disagree with me here, but Cesar Milan and his show are merely entertainment. His tactics aren't always the best way to handle things, and not every method works for every dog. I do hope you can find someone local to help you out with her. If we were a bit closer, I'd help you out with her, but my schedule is already stretched paper thin. My only day off is Sundays, and I usually spend that with my kids and dogs lol. But, if you'd like, and feel like driving to Morristown, I wouldn't mind helping you out with her. We'll keep that as a last resort, in the event you can't find a good trainer in your area.
