Hello from Upstate NY!
Hi all!
Guess i never posted an Intro thread!
I'm Krystle, i live in the Rochester NY area with my boyfriend Tim and my almost 4 year old son Liam. We have American Pitbull Terriers. Yumi is a female, 2 years old and Reizo is a male, 13 weeks old. I also have 3 cats, 2 males Max and Sam and a female Chloe. Chloe and Sam pretty much stay hidden unless the dogs are out or sleeping. Max loves them, and tolerates the puppy climbing on top of him and licking him all over.
I'm fairly new to pitbulls! Yumi was Tims. I fell in love with her as soon as i met her, and when they moved in her and I became best buddies. We then got Reizo who is my first puppy EVER. My son LOVES both dogs. He was very nervous around Yumi at first, just because he hasn't been around dogs much. But now, he's hooked!
Yumi is AMAZING with my son. I never leave him unsupervised with either dog, but i trust Yumi. (Reizo, he's still a puppy. He wouldn't intentionally do anything but he's a little stinker rambuctious dude!) Yumi will be laying on the couch, Liam will climb up and lay down with her, usually half ON her and she just lays there and licks him.
If we let her, she would sleep with him. His room and play room are gated off right now until the puppy get older and can be trusted to not eat EVERYTHING! When he goes to bed at night, she will lay outside the gate. Sometimes in the middle of the night she gets up (she sleeps with Tim and I) and i hear her walk across the house, look in his room, then come back to bed.
Glad to be here! Thank you to everyone that has given great advice already!

Thanks guys. We have done a lot of research on DA. If you read other posts of mine you'll see we had a problem with the female attacking the puppy for a few days. We seem to have stopped that, for now atleast. We have taken a lot of new steps to prevent this. Removing all "triggers"[food, toys etc] They only get toys (atleast the certain ones that they fight over) when being directly supervised. They are supervised and seperated by an adult while eating, crated when we're cooking or eating, no food allowed in the living area (new rule for my son, they are gated out of the kitchen). They are also not ever unsupervised. If i have to leave the room (bathroom, shower etc) either they get crated, or one dog comes with me.

That's great that you're doing research and willing to acknowledge and take the precautionary measures to prevent any issues with DA. I will honestly say, without reading your other posts regarding Yumi and the new pup, that perhaps she was just "laying down the law" with him and establishing dominance. Most dogs, whether male or female, will do that when a new pet enters the home, especially another dog. However, I'm not going to preach to you about it. Welcome to the pack, and I hope you enjoy your stay on our yard. Adorable fur kids you have!
