Spin is an easy one; you can use food to lure the dog to get the behavior - then we do twirl, which is spin in the opposite direction.

I taught mine to look out the window and "see who's here"

Jazzy's training videos are cute! She posted one for me with a lot of different things. (I believe it was jazzy. It was a while back)

I love the
Who's there? trick

Veronica spaz's every time we say "kitty cat" but I don't think we exactly taught her that...we may have encouraged it.

Here's the vid:

This is an easy fun one too:

Thanks, Sheba, our heeler, knows it so she kinda helped train him to that too but it was easy because he love looking out the window(and getting caught in the blinds and tearing them up).
I love her ears!!! Oh my gosh they are so cute!!

Back to tricks though haha. Wait is a good one to teach. I started by using it at meal times. Cain caught on really quick. Make him sit, then say wait with a signal and when he goes for the food pick it up an sit and wait again. I think Cain got it after 2 or 3 times. Then you can use it for other things(outside, walks, etc). Dead dog or bang bang as you saw in jazzy's video(I love watching Her do it. It's so exaggerated and cute!) Sheba knows up(paws on chest) we did get him which is speak for us. Leave it is good to teach also.

One more question, off subject but oh well, btw im a first time poster, first ever pit and i got him about 2 months ago. I have an american bulldog as well. But I got Daxx's ears cut, and the vet did a great job, but I do not like the length of them, I called another well known place and they claim they can redo them and make them shorter, would anyone advise this. He was born aug 2, so hes getting up there in age!

Your dog will grow. I do know people have gotten them redone maybe they will jump on. I wouldn't wait what don't you like and what do you think needs to be fixed? Very cute pup!

You can teach touch to have you pup use his nose to run Up to touch your fingers. You should train him to look at you as well not really a trick but something to work on all the time. Train him when you say look he must stop and look in your eyes. You can train your pup to bring his toys to you. Train him to go to his bed when you tell them. Or a corner of the room if you don't have a bed. So many things to teach your pup to get the brain working and keep them thinking. Train for about 20 minutes a day. New tricks should be taught until they get it 9 out of 10 times. If you want tips on how to train these let me know which you want to try first.

Jazzy, I can't tell you enough how much I enjoy watching your training videos with Veronica! Especially when you show the ones of her learning how to do the trick and the end result. Lovely work.

To the OP... sticking with basic obedience at first is best. You're on the right track... next should be wait and or stay. Your dog should learn stay, as you may need it from time to time.

As for the ear question, I've had dogs with cropped and natural ears, and my suggestion is to go with your instinct. It's really not worth the risk of putting him under again, imo, but if that's what you want to do, that's completely up to you. I happen to know that with cropped ears, the dog will go through growth stages, and his head will grow into those ears over time.

To TheLadyPit - Thank you so much!! As a novice trainer, that means allot!! I am still always amazed when we accomplish something and want to show the world!! I get so much help from the experts on youtube; but sometimes it seems to me that they are so good and their dogs so accustomed to training/learning, that they make everything look so easy, I get frustrated. Veronica and I are managing to get from point A to point B; but we tend to take a taxi ride around the city to get there sometimes, lol; so I think maybe other people will benefit from seeing the process - where novice dog and novice handler struggle. It took me a long time to get the message...be patient, it takes time, it's OK to struggle, the learning process is not always smooth for either dog or human!

To the OP: I think your dog is adorable. I also personally would not put a dog under a second time over a cosmetic issue; especially since I think his ears are fine...but as LP said...you're the one who has to be happy with it...so it's a very personal decision.

As far as youtube trainers go; I think kikopup and Victoria Stillwell are great...but my favorite "go to" guy is Tab289.
