pound dog problems

my grandmother had to put two of her dogs down i forgot why but they were ANCIENT!! it was something to do with their old age and they couldnt even manage walking well!! one was a pug the other i dunno he looked like a miniature collie he was white and gray i havent seen him in years cuz she moved kinda far i actually just got back in contact with her. she isnt my real grandmother. any way i really want to say he was merle. well she just got another pound dog its a pointer and she is having some difficulties. when he goes to say hi to people he actually goes near he jumps up and when they put their arms out he bites down real hard not enough to draw blood but his mouth turns all foamy and he doesnt want to let go its like he only wants to be friendly on his own terms and even then he doesnt want to be touched. also if some one walk near him. NEAR without even touching him he yelps real loud and hides behind my grandmother. she has a long haired doxin and if hte doxin tries to go in the kitchen he will just grab him by the neck and hold him down. my grandmother only wants to give him back to the pound as a last resort. any suggestions??

I dunno

Maybe the new dog was hurt or abused??? When I got my 10 year old dog from the pound she used to chase away any other dog that got near me at the dog park as if she was afraid I wouldn't love her anymore. Kind of like an announcement to the other dogs "She MY momma! Stay away!" To this day she is still not super good on sharing me-and we have 5 other pits!
I've built up her confidence over the last 10 years but I invested a lot of time and attention. Whew! Good luck to your grandma!

probobly was abused who knows but why would he latch on to your arm when jumping up to greet you? unless he isnt trying to greet you. she said his spit turns really foamy and he gets defensive if you pull away.
