Please help ...Sammi is chewing EVERYTHING

Hello. I just joined and i was hoping i could get some suggestions. Sammi my SBT is chewing EVERYTHING from shoes to shirts to towels. When i catch her i say..no you chew your bone. Ill take whatever shes chewing away and give her the dog bone. Lately she seems to not to want to listen to me and do want she wants..that is NO BUENO! i dont put my hands on her and i dont yell. I stand firm and look at her. Then she looks at me like ..mom.. sorry..and i feel bad but i tell her to eat her bone..then she takes her bone and joggs off...please help

We are having a similar problem. Our Sadie is just about 6 months old now, and she has gotten worse with the chewing and peeing indoors. At first, we were told that we probably had too many toys and too many different types of toys for her. So, we got rid of everything but a kong and a bone or two. She loved the bone at first, but lost interest. She still chews on the kong daily, but it's just not enough for her. She goes after shoes every time we turn our back, chews on firewood and wood casings and furniture, kids toys (when they leave them out), and cushions on the sofa and chairs. She has damaged a lot of our living room furniture (thank God it's old worn out stuff).

I can definitely sympathize with you on this one! I'm sorry I don't have advice for you, but thought my post might add some depth to the discussion if/when you get some responses.

Good luck!!

Crate train the pup. Then when you can't supervise, you crate them. Some dogs never stop chewing when left alone, others eventually grow out of it. Crate training isn't cruel, especially since they're terriers, it is a safety precaution. Not so much to save your couch, or expensive shoes, but more to prevent vet visits when the pup ingests something they aren't supposed to.
