Is this normal ? Squeaky toy ...

Hi everyone I'm new here I have a 3 month old and she loves her squeaky toy . I had to take it away today because my bf noticed that she gets a little crazy with it , she shakes her had and sounds like she's growling and she seems a little angry with it . So I took it away . She plays with nylabones with no problem it's just with the squeaky toy and it worries me . Is that normal for her or should I not let her play with it . Ty

Is she growling at someone or just playing with her toy? There is nothing wrong with growling while playing unless she is aggressively directing it at a person.

However a squeaky toy is not the best idea as a toy for this breed. She may not destroy it YET, but these dogs destroy playthings and need toys like Nylabones and items they can not tear apart and possibly ingest or get it lodged in the throat or intestines.

Normal dog play; mine growls grunts and shakes the toy to death; and has a BLAST doing it!

I think allot of dog "games" are outlets for their hardwired predatory sequence behaviors - especially games w/ squeaky toys; so it engages the alert, stalk, rush/chase, bite/hold/shake/kill behavior sequence - like a little kid playing "house"; and for puppies and adult dogs alike it allows them to play out that natural sequence of behaviors that many dogs today don't get to do (I am guilty of not allowing my dog to kill small animals; much to her disappointment and consternation; but I do give her squeaky toys - I am sure in her mind a pathetic substitute lol).

As AP13 said; you want to stop them before they get to the dissect and eat phase of the sequence; because they can get an intestinal blockage from ingesting something inedible.

My dog is an adult and LOVES playing with the squeakies and stuffies; she just needs to be supervised with them and we take them away when she starts pulling them apart exposing squeakers and trying to pull off pieces to eat.

mine do this all the time even as adults, they shake things, growl at it, grumble , it is just play. as long as the growl isn't directed at you like when you come close to the toy or go to take it { even then make sure you understand the difference between growling to play or growling at you. One of my boys when we play tug with growl and grumble and make all sorts of sounds, it is not directed to me though }.Let her play.
