Puppy is aggressive to new people

Hello all,
I have a 6 month old pitty puppy, he was found at two weeks old and was bottle fed by a foster, and I brought him home at 9 weeks old. He is such a sweetheart, but when ever I try to introduce him to people, he will let them get real close and start growling and barking at them. How do you work on fixing this sort of behavior??? Is it something I can do or do I need a trainer???

Thanks,
Tim

It sounds like he needs socialization, but because there is barking and growling involved, it might not be a bad idea to consult a trainer.

I bottle raised one of my dogs from day one, and another i got at 3 weeks old, but they went to work with me daily, and were handled by a lot of different people all the time, so they became very social....but I'm lucky in that I work for a veterinarian, so taking them to work wasn't a big deal. I know not everybody has that option.

Good luck, I hope everything works out for you.

I had the same problem with one of my pups.
I ended up taking him to puppy classes. Being around other dogs and their owners has helped him a lot. He still has some problems being around men, but we're working on it.
Do it while hes young.... its easier.
