Off furniture help!

I recently have made the decision that Bailey deserves to be inside and im sticking to it. But,when she was inside before(a few months back before she started staying outside) she ALWAYS got on the couches, especially when coming inside from pottying. She ruined a couch, chewing it(which I learned to prevent) and making it smell like"dog".She got bathed once a week, didnt have a fishy smell, just everytime she would go outside she stunk when she came in.And I was with her,she didnt roll in anything.

I need to find a way to keep her off the furniture, any ideas? Id greatly appreciate it!

Usually have at least a foster a month, its so rewarding to see a dog that always stayed in the back of the kennel turn in to a playful puppy :)

I don't keep Odin off the couch, but 2 things I did to teach him the off command. One I gave him the old recling chair so he has somewhere else to go... and 2 (kinda extreme)I bought some of the bitter apple spray and when I gave him the off command if he didn't answer he got a small squirt of the bitter stuffs. He learned pretty quick and now I say off he gets off. But u don't wanna over do it with the spray and prolly wouldn't be good for a real stubborn dog.

I think the best way to keep the dog off furniture is to prevent access to it.

Teach a solid off, have him get down every time he gets up, catch him mid-jump before he gets up with an "eh-eh", always re-direct him to where you want him to lay, somehow block off the area when you aren't there to supervise, use a baby gate, turn the couch cushions up to make it less appealing, you can try a "scat mat" that the pet stores sell - don't know anything about them so I can't say if they work or not.

He may over time get the idea. Then again, when I was growing up we had a small dog that wasn't allowed on the beds and everytime my parents went out they came home to evidence that the dog had been on their bed.

I just throw sheets on my couches... but I purposefully bought hella cheap couches because not only do I have dogs... but a 2 year old lol.

But I agree with teaching OFF. All mine know it. But the best way to stop a behavior is to never let it happen in the first place. Which is gonna be hard since you've let her up in the past.
