I have a 5 month old dog (Baus) that has just had his first 'incident' with another dog. So far he has been nothing but playful with other dogs, and though his puppy play can be a little rough, I am wondering if the reason he clamped down on this other dog's ear is my fault or if it's just something he's learning on his own.

When we pass other dogs in the street, Baus forgets everything he knows about behaving and presses as hard as he can towards whatever dog is there. Big, small, young, or old- he cares not. My typical reaction is to force him to sit and change direction, but to do so often requires a little rougher handling than he normally gets. I hate to think that he could be associating bad energy with other dogs and come to DA? What is the best way to deal?

I have a pit/Rhodesian ridgeback mix at home that Baus plays with all day- so I know he isn't a maniac, I just want to be sure that he doesn't begin to hate other dogs on account of me...

da is very common with this breed.. its nothing you have cause and is also something you can not prevent or stop.. all you can do is keep him away from other dogs.. if hes doin this with strange dogs id never leave him alone with your other pet at home and be on your toes when they are together

So I guess it's sort of there or it isn't, huh? I'm hoping it was just a strange reaction to that individual dog/situation, but I'll have to be a little more careful about how he's introduced to other dogs in the future. It really wasn't that big of a deal. Just a little disconcerting as I've neither seen him that mad or determined before!
