why was pitbull allowed to attack again

Another article on irresponsible owners. If the dog has attacked once why is it allowed to attack again.

A | A | A A Callaway child is in the hospital after she was mauled by a pit bull.

Bay County Sheriff's investigators say two-year old Valencia Newton was with her baby-sitter at the sitter's home.

The woman put Valencia down in the front yard and turned her back, expecting the toddler to follow.

That's when one of the sitter's two pit-bulls, a large male, attacked the child.

The dog grabbed the child by the head and would not let go.

A Callaway city employee named Glenn Redd drove by, saw what was happening and pulled over.

He wrapped his hand in a piece of steel and began hitting the dog in the head.

After the fourth blow, the dog released the child.

Relatives took the baby to the hospital, where she's in serious condition.

Witnesses say she had several bites on her neck and legs and one of her ears was ripped off during the attack.

Bay County Animal Control officers confiscated both the male dog and a female pit-bull from the owner, saying both animals had been involved in previous attacks.

Authorities say the male dog had attacked another child and the female had attacked an elderly person.

Investigators say criminal charges could be possible

Just another notch on belt for those that want the pitbull to go the way of the dodo bird. It is irresponisble owners like this woman that give the "pitbull" a bad name.

this dog should have been put down the first time it attacked this lady should have been proscuted for this because she knew she had a dangerous dog. This is just another story that makes all pitbull breeds look bad.

I agree. Why would you give the dog a chance to do it twice?

Because she cared more about the dog and her feelings than what something like this does for the breed. I was heart broken to have to put Chalice down but I had to think about the breed as a whole. I couldn't let something that she did give fuel to fire the BSL that plagues our breed.

Don't people get references when they choose a sitter? I would talk to the neighbors, google the sitter, etc. And what business does this woman have being a SITTER when she has HA dogs? The stupidity just never ends, why would she put the child in the yard with the dogs, turn her back...it just goes on and on. I hope this idiot goes to jail.

My uncle and his wife started a day care, and they had to give their beloved doberman to a family member because even though he loved children, no one wanted to use a day care with a dobie in the yard. This dog was a certified therapy dog, he could warn when my uncle was going to have a seizure, and they still took no chances. They gave him to a family member, and he often stayed with them on weekends, they took him on vacation, basically had him around when no kids were there.

Believe me, I would definitely know if my sitter's dog had attacked a child. I mean would you leave you leave your child with a pedophile? Do a little research.

I had a pediplhile living across the road from me when I lived in a trailer court. I never let my son out of my sight.

Exactly, that's just common sense and responsible parenting. Unless you go to a site to see where they live, I imagine kid touchers are harder to spot than HA dogs. The news can't give out names and addresses of pedophiles, but they just love to publicize pit attacks, plus, HA dogs are fairly obvious, the growling, vicious barking, owners locking them up when guests arrive...how can a parent not know?

Your right. I would have never kknown about the guy ( accept he gave me the creeps) if my other neighbor hadn't been down to the local watering hole and heard about it. I talked to a cop friend and he told he it was true.

Its called megans law, all registered sex offenders are publicized on a web site. My sister had trails through her yard going up to all the windows she noticed it throughout the condo community... She chekced megans law.... wouldnt ya know it there was sex offenders everywhere in her neighborhood. I remember when i was little there was a HORRIFIC murder case and they released the guy into a small town near ours... People came from miles around to run that guy outta town. Throwing stuff and yelling and picketing. It didnt take a water hole to bring that guy out, the papers let you know it was going down!

As for this dog situation i wana know what kinda steel you can wrap around your hand LOL. He wrapped his hand in a piece of steel and began hitting the dog in the head. Like thats gonna do anything especially when it has a babies head in its mouth... Im sure HE didnt inflict any damage on the baby ....riiiiight. This sitter is most likely the dumbest lady i have ever heard of. Recently a sitter in our area had to make more money so she left her unliscenced (pedophile) husband take care of the kids needless to say a couple weeks later that situation was headlines.

I guess when you are caught up in the moment you don't always think straight. I'm sure that a few black and blues marks from a pipe would be less damage than a dog bitting down on your head. I'm also sure this cop didn't want to get bit.

wasnt a cop he was a city employee.... Its funny i work at a hospital and im trained in first aid and CPR but if someone gets hurt im trained to dial a phone number and NOT TOUCH THEM, because most likely ill cause more harm than good. This situation was easily avoidable. what were her dogs in the front yard off leash anyways? catastrophe...

Your right it was any accident just waiting to happen. Totally avoidable but she was very irresponible and she added to the "pitbull" bad rap on top of it. Really ticks me off.
