Mine was a 3/8 in nylon surplus rope with rope clamps then the shrink wrap on top and a LEGIT climbing hook from our local sports shop. I was selling those at one point in time, but really its just easier to make em yourself plus you have a nice length of rope after.

EDIT:
also I chose to use a screw gate for added security so that for any reason should i be walking around peoples theres little chance that the dog will get unclipped for any reason with out you knowing.
reclaimed climbing rope would have been great though you just wanna make sure its dry rope and to much strain hasn't been put on it
