Fur Trappers will get this one. (Joke)

This is a joke my dad used tell me when I was little. My stepmom is from a wealthy neighborhood in Kentucky and she is a tenderfoot.

I still think it's cute.

A Raccoon had traveled far from his home in Kentucky. He was in the deep woods of Southern Arkansas, and was tired, hungry, and thirsty. Unfamiliar with the rural landscape and miles from any dumpster hand outs, he began to get worried about how he was gonna make it.

About this time along came another Raccoon waddling through the woods. He was a local and new the tricks and trades on surviving here. The Kentucky coon caught his attention, and the local was happy to help. He gave him plenty of advice on how to find oneself some supper, and where to bed up and what not. Before parting the Arkansas coon told him he had one last tip. "Around here" he said, "Folks put out steel traps to catch critters like me and you. It ain't no big deal, you just gotta look out for 'em. However, if you do get caught in one, best thing you can do is chew your foot off."

With that, the Arkansas Coon left and went on about his buisness. They'd agreed to meet up again sometime soon and swap stories and such.

A few days had gone by and the Local raccoon hadn't heard anything from his new found friend. Worried he'd gotten in trouble he went searching for him.

He finally found against the bank of a small creek bed, and undoubtedly, he was caught in steel trap. Shaking his head he called out "I told ya to chew your foot off!"

The Kentucky coon replied "I done chewed three of em off and I'm still in the trap!"

To be better educators we must adress both the answer to the question, as well as the ignorance at blame for the question.
