Sooo... I'm an amatuer

I'm gonna be getting into Agility with pig...whether i do it just in the back yard or on the field I want her to preform top notch. I did some training with my collie while growing up and she did great, but collies are a completely different ball game than a bulldog. I know I need to design a course out back... I've only been to one true agility tournament which is what started my interest with my collie. When she passed I kinda gave up on the sport until Pig was squirted out into my life. I guess my question is since I've only fooled around with this for a few years when I was younger.. are there course layouts more difficult than others? What are the best starter obsticles?

Edit: my collie was a little over a year old when we started fooling with this sport so I don't really know about training as pups... should I go about doing it the same way as an older dog... just walk the course with her repeditively and show her what i need?

I can give you obstacles to build at home and weave poles are one of them. You cannot start them till the puppies for at least 10 mo old but at least you know what you need. Look in the sticky part if this forum and you will see the weave pole articles.
You want to build a wobble board now and start working on the pups before they get here. (Cree cree might surprise you if anything )
Here is one way to build one
Dog Play: Just For Fun Agility - Wobble Board and Teeter Training

and yeah I really like you....lol I drew a picture of what I would make for a wobble board.
Things you need
First you need to find a rubber ball or plastic ball that is maybe 4-5" around, look at kids play stores or the pet stores. It is a ball that will have weight on it so nothing that will collapse. The ball is blue in the picture.
2.5' x 2.5' of board that is not too think. It could be a nice plywood or something similar.
The board is pink in the picture.
Next you need some wood to make a box around the ball. the black box in the picture. The box will hold the ball under the board but it needs to be like only 3/4 of the way down the ball. If the box is as long as the ball then the board will not wobble as smoothly. So the box gets glued or nailed into place and should be a snug fit to the ball.

Now you have a wobble board. When the puppy puts it's feet on the board it is going to tip and wobble. the goal is to get the puppy use to movement and learn to rock their weight back. This will help with all the contacts in agility.

I would make it and put it outside and let them investigate it. See if they get on and pay with each other around the board.
When you work with them b sure to put it on grass or something will it will not make a ton of noise at first. Get some hot dogs and see if the will get on and praise them with food. Soon they should be jumping on it with out a problem.

Start with this first and this week I will see if I can make a few videos for you and things to do with small puppies.

yeppers about the Wobble board.... My dad just had to use some plywood for something in the garage and has the perfect peice of scrap left. I told him I would kill him if he threw it out before i could get the truck to bring it home.

I also think a good investment is getting a subscription to clean run magazine. It is expensive but you can get the onlie version for way cheaper. Then you can print out the articles you really like.
They have ideas of little thing you can set up at home so you do not have to think of things to do. It also has really good tips on things to practice.
They also have the best agility store!!
Clean Run: Dog Toys, Dog Treats, Dog Agility Supplies, Dog Training Supplies
here is the magazine link
Clean Run: ALL

Standard size is best
Clean Run: Wonder Bar Tug Sticks
if she doesn't like toys and like food better then try this
