Australia: Glen Eira - BSL Passed for 5 Breeds

The headline is deceiving and supports the belief that using the term "pit bull" in headlines is a media ploy to garner readers. In addition to "pit bulls," the new law also applies to Presa Canarios,Dogos, Japanese mastiffs and Brazilian mastiffs.

New laws for pitbull owners
06 Dec, 2010 03:20 PM

Pitbull owners have two years to declare and register their dogs with Glen Eira Council following changes made to the domestic animals act.

Councils will now be able to seize, impound and euthanise ‘‘dangerous dogs’’ found roaming the streets. American pit bull terrier, Canary mastiff, Argentinian mastiff, Japanese mastiff and Brazilian mastiff dog breeds will have to comply with the new legislation.

Its nothing new guys trust me, there was a time where Victoria[the state this council was in] was nearly the safest place to keep the breed, the laws and the dogs on the list are not anyting new, all they do is label the breeds on our import ban list and add them to their own council bans. The sad thing is as rumours spread there are maybee only a very small amount of any of the other breeds other than the abpt.

It has got increasingly worse since Hugh Wirth[wirthless] was taken away as the national president of the rspca and now he runs the Victorian department and has a personal vendetta against apbts. as he is in a positon to be easily placed in the media he is abel to spread his crappy outlook at the drop of a hat.
As the clubs have since closed down and our "endangered dog breeds asoss" has since closed as we ended up with eight members in total its a realy bad sign that we are all giving up.

The other realy bad thing is they think its getting worse because these laws have created a black market in the breed fetching higher prices and byb dogs.
while people like me are hiding our dogs away or moving further out and staying off the grid the suburban punks are breeding ha dogs into each other and using social networking sites like facebook to sell their poorly bred ghetto dogs, most wouldnt know the history and wouldnt even know the blood their dogs came from.

its getting worse in most states and better in others but all in all its looking bleak .

I myself have pretty much followed every single law i need to in my state but i have "taken advantage" of the loopholes in my state at the advice of a lawyer friend.
Worst part is all these years of doing the right thing dont mean a thing other than they will visit me when the laws in my state change therfore i will be one of the first to suffer due to someone elses stupidity.
We will not be beaten and i am at the stage these days where i will be hiding off the grid and keeping my apbts ilegally eventually if i realy feel i have to if i think thats my only choice.
It realy is a losing battle down here.
