what are you conditioning him for?
The show ring or Weight Pull or just because?
ADBA allows dogs to start pulling at 9months and UKC at 12months (I believe) so you can start to condition him, but there is a LOT more that goes into it other than just putting weights on a dog. My personal favorite excersize is the Spring pole followed close by the flirt pole.

Definately springpole. Peanut's favorite thing to do is run after a tennis ball. Hard walking is good too.

Peanut is 10 months old and I started about 2 weeks before he turned 10 months. I am waiting til he is older to add weight though espically since he is not going to compete just for conditioning like you. No reason to rush in with weight if you are not competeing. Just get your dog in shape then start to add weight later. IMO

If you are training for weight pull here is a good article.

weight pull training for your dog, teach dog to pull

If you just want him to be at a healthy conditioned weight I would be follow the same guidelines as weight pull.
