You can start the spring pole early to get them use to it. Just put the toy or what ever you use really close to the ground so the pups 4 feet are on the ground. Then at 10 months you can raise it a bit. At 12 months you can put it full height. You can get what ever you are going to use on the spring pole and play with it for a while before tyeing it up. You can also do a flirt pole to build prey drive in the puppy. When your pup starts to lose teeth you have to be careful not to play tug too much because it will hurt them. some dogs remember that playing tug hurt so they will never touch it again.
During teething I do not play tug games at all, I will throw balls or play with the flirt pole but if they catch it I do not pull it.
