Cool What Age and What distance can I bring Kane running with me?

He's 3 months old now. Or just about anyways. Was wondering at what age I can start bringing him on long walks? 40 minutes each. Morning and Evening.

Then upgrade him to jogs / runs.

I'd like him to do roughly 5 miles when I do have him join me.

dkcody26 is an unknown quantity at this point
Most advice ive ever seen recomended waiting til about 1 year for the jogs. Id say gentle walks would be fine to start now.

He is a puppy so he will get tired on a really long walk. I would say start out with a 15-20 minute walk and see how he does. I wouldn't recommand jogging with him unless you are do so a dirt or grass trail until he is alittle old like about 9-10months of age and then for short distances. Some people will say to wait longer but I don't think it is necessary to wait unitl they are 18 monts of age. You could always talk to your vet about it and get their opinion.

I walked my little guy back in the day for 40-60 minutes at about 4 months, but it was all on dirt trails. When he got to 12 months we started with light jogging for about 10-15 minutes on dirt trails working up to 40-60 minutes of trail running over a period of about 6 months. He loved every bit of it and it was always something I looked forward to.

The key words work up slowly. They are puppies so you want to let them rest when they get tired so if you are going to do the longer walks be preoared to stop or let them go at their pace not yours.

hahah ^^^ good stuff! Some dogs grow fast and reach top out size but their bones are still SOFT so to speak.. 9-12months for running as they said 1 1/2 - 2yrs before REAL work, weights and conditioning..

IM a lil diferent from being in alaskan sled dogs, my dogs start runnin when they can keep up with the rest I just don't leash them so they can pace themselves with the adults who are leased or harnessed, which is usually 6-10 months when pups start keep up with us without runnin back home, country living

I don't usually get them running until about 7 months.
I start them with half a mile and gradually work up to 2-5 miles.
2 miles running, the rest speed walking and jogging cuz I'm old and fat.

Yes - well I obviously don't plan on having Kane run any marathons with me anytime soon.

Thanks for the responses guys. Now we just run around back and forth outside and play mini-11 week old semblance of fetch for 20-30 minutes when he starts showing signs of slowing down.

He's pretty mellow most of the time but certainly can play for a while when he wants.

I think we'll start with 20 minute structured walks in the next 2-3 weeks and take it from there.

Thanks.
