get a fence post for like a 6 or 7 foot fence. seat it in the ground with cement. then you wanna make sure your arm thats gonna hold your spring and rope is bolted down nice and secure. then put a spring on it and a bit of rope, or some bungee and a cloth

Not to float my own boat but my husband and I have a pretty awesome free-standing set-up. Check it out:

I got a big thick chain and I toss it over sturdy tree branches. I connect the end with a mountain climber ring and then attach a garage door spring. then I tie his tug toy or whatever to the spring and it works for me. I didn't have room in my tiny yard to build anything...

deffinately just fyi i think those are like 9 or 10 footers. you wanna hang your rope so theres like 4 foot of distance from the floor to the rope maybe 2 1/2 ft if you got a puppy

he just turned 10 months this month... i think im just goin hang it high enough so he can reach and make sure his back paws r still on the ground. thanks

If memory serves...

Sides: Two 8' treated 4x4's spaced about 5' apart and buried 1' deep with 3-5 bags Quikrete per hole.
Top: One 6' treated 4x4
Supports: 2x4 cut to size for stability (top corners).

It has held up pretty well. We later added some hemp rope wrapped around the post bases to prevent splinter injuries. One of the posts has actually started to split from where the heavy duty screw went into it at the top but it is still holding.

Oh and those pics are from our first attempt at securing the toy, but a carabiner is no good unless you want your dogs breaking teeth...

looks really good though kudos. i like the hemp wrap idea it adds a little bit of a personal touch and serves a purpose. especially if you wrapped the whole thing up till your supports. only concern would be you have big scratching post for all your neighborhood cats when your dogs not in the yard

Ha ha, true. We actually got the idea from our cats' scratching post. They tore the carpet of so we replaced it with hemp. I have caught the cats jumping onto the spring pole a time or two but the rope holds up pretty well. The only thing we have had to replace so far is the cloth/toy/hide and the spring. The spring was a recent replacement, mostly due to it being rainy/damp here more often than not it rusted. This set-up has lasted us two years. We figure we can always turn it into a child's swing when we eventually sell the place too.
