Honestly, I saw those before, and I don't like the metal hardware. I set up my springpole so the tug hangs from rope only, with all metal bits at least a foot above. Metal anywhere near the end of a springpole or flirtpole is a recipe for busted teeth. I think you have a good idea and if one of those would hold up for, say, 6 months, it already is a better buy for me than cowhide. (Although if I bought one and my dogs wouldn't play with it, I'd probably use it to beat them. LOL! J/K) I think if you can either wrap the metal or come up with an alternative, it would be safer.

bahamutt99,

Thanks for your tips.

How long did you soak the hide? Once you rolled it, did you let it dry or just tied it to the rope? If you tied it, did you use a special type of knot?

Overtymekennels stated that he is using the same hide for a year now for his dogs. So, I just ordered some.

I don't know. My boy is pretty harsh with things and destroys almost anything he gets a hold of.

I soaked it until it seemed to be soft. I dunno. It might have been a half hour. After I rolled it up, I let it dry in that shape before I put it on the rope, and made sure it was fully dry before I let any dogs tug on it. (Wet cowhide tears much more easily.)

It usually takes me about a day to dry. And Sammie if you can tie abasic knot then you'll be ok..just triple knot it that's why I always but at least two feet extra rope

I don't even knot it. Involves looping the rope back against itself like a slip. Its hard to describe, but simple to do. I'll have to take some pics of my springpole someday.
