For those who can't make a spring pole...

or for the dogs that are afraid of it or wont do it:

This may be something you do already but to replace that work, this is an exercise that i like to do. Now if you aren't strong enough this may not work for you.

Get a bicycle tire or something like that. I hold it up in the air and let my dog jump for it (kinda like a flirt pole). Once she grabs it, I pull up but to where her back feet are still on the ground and let her pull on it. I walk around with her puling it and I will pull back. Once she lets go or it slips out of her mouth, I make her jump for it again. (when she grabs it in the air, I leg go of the tire to prevent injuries). Now if you arent strong enough to hold your dog up this may not work but it wears me out in 10 minutes but its better than nothing. Do this once or twice a day and seems like a reasonable replacement for a spring pole. Roxy loves the spring pole so I dont have a problem with this but I like to change it up a bit.

Or if you have a park near by you can do like me and use a rope and string up a rope toy to a low branch and let them tug like that. I cant have any dogs pulling on me due to neck and back injuries so a tree at the park and a spring pole setup in the yard is a life saver lol

Lol we live by the river and the kids put up a rope swing so they could fly into the river. Every time we go down ther D swings off that rope like a mad man and then splashes into the water. He's like a big freaking kid XD.

for sure! my friends dog will absolutely NOT touch any toy attached to an object (tree, post, spring pole). But if you use that same toy and put it in your hands, he will go nuts over it.

On my fence, I have segments of metal posts....i have a tire attached to one with a spring in between the post and the tire. I use it for tug of war. Roxy gets bored with that quick but its better than nothing.

My blue mutt is like that, so I stand next to the pole while he is on the rope and move the rope and touch him and get him all riled up lol

Haha I do the same. When roxy is just holding onto the rope not moving, I'll kinda tickle her stomach or pull her tail and starts to pull the toy again lol

something i did today is along the same lines but a little easier to do if you arent strong enough to hold the dog up.

I still use a bicycle tire. i hold it in the air, once she jumps for it i let go so there is no whiplash or anything. once she comes to the ground (while she is still holding it in her mouth) i pick it up and put my arm through the tire and place it over my shoulder and walk around. Roxy will still hang out but her feet are touching the ground as well. She will pull it in the opposite direction i am walking and jump to get a better grip...etc. seems like a decent alternative. if i come up with anything else i will post.
