Do It Yourself- Gimp Tutorial

This is for all the people who are just starting out with Gimp, or want to know how to use Gimp to cut out a picture for further editing. I thought I would make an easy how to for this program since I see more people using it. If you request a video for any other kind of Gimp related process that you would like to see I am glad to help. Just let me know, and I hope this can help a few of you get started :)

That's great that you posted a how-to tutorial, but if I may offer some advice...

If I were trying to follow that step by step, I'd have to pause it several times. Your frames move too fast for the amateur Gimp user, and clicking back and forth trying to follow the steps you're providing would cause even further delay.

Also, if I may ask, what version of Gimp are you using? Your Tool box and the other box (not sure what it's called) are opposite of how they show up in my version of Gimp.

Sorry about that. I guess i'm just a fast reader, but I was trying to make it short so people wouldn't have to sit there for 10minutes to wait for it to load or move to the next slide. I guess I need to find that happy medium, lol. I'll work on that for the next one, since I have more tutorials I can post.

But I have GIMP 2.6 I believe. The other box it the layers box. That's all that one is.

Might I ask if it was at least helpful? I hope it was.

No, it wasn't helpful to me b/c I couldn't read one slide before it went to the next one. I believe I'm using 2.0, but that shouldn't make a difference as far as the functions and tools are concerned, right?

Jaws101 08-30-2012 11:48 PM

I think Gimp 2.0 is the old version. So it actually might make a difference. If it is older then it is lacking in newer tools and improvement. I haven't had 2.0 and if it is the old one then I probably had it way back when. I guess it would not matter if you aren't going to be doing that much with pictures, but if you wish to do more advanced art then I recommend getting the newest version that is out.

You can also download brushes to your program which makes life a little bit simpler. But that depends on what you want to do exactly.

Sorry I'm just now seeing this, but if you search Google, you'll be able to find it. I'm actually looking for some help with something now, but I'll get it figured out. I'm sure it's something simple lol.

It was awkward for me switching over years and years ago. lol. I actually hated it. I really like it now though. You can go on youtube and find lots and lots of tutorials on how to do things.
I generally play around with stuff and if I can't figure it out then I read about it. I love to read. Just not instructions. I learn better by doing personally.
