old fashioned (horse walker) treadmill

I am trying to make an outside old-fashioned horse walker type treadmill. For example have a pole cemented into the ground with an arm extending from a pole driver and a chain dangling to a harness for my kids to run and get outside fresh air too. Does anyone have any suggestions? I went to Lowe's to talk about putting the peices together ( with my welder buddy) and someone asked about potential for strangulation. I will pose the idea who know more than I. Any suggestions on how to make it better?

Are you talking about a system like a horse walker that usually has 4 extensions of a main pole and swivels? If so they actually have mills like this for a dog but only one extension. They are usually called jenny's or cat mills. As long as you make the chain long enough to touch the ground there shouldnt be any strangulation risk. Also I would never leave them on it unattended.

Yeah from what i've read most catmills have an arm around 25'-28' long. With chain that would take up at least 60'.

d0ggmann is an unknown quantity at this point
how to make it better

* i suggest a runner, put up correctly should secure and exercise might even over exercise him ( so keep alot of water handy haha ) up runs: .* and this gives your dog a chance not to get dizzy but a good exrecise and healthy exercise, not saying that the pole treadmill is not a good idea but i would think your dog would get dizzy. p.s. runner
