Need some tips on my dog house setup
MaxPumper (Got the BAN STICK) MaxPumper is offline 04-11-2013, 09:19 PM

Someone gave me a huge dog house for free. With a new born in the house now, time for Lauren to go outside. Here is my setup. Im in new york so it will get warm soon. What should i do for shade for her? How about the floor, is dirt ok or should i put something else here? also in the winter im gonna have to setup a heater in the house since i wasnt able to build my own setup to block cold air. so any tip and tricks will help. Also along the fence i think i will put rocks so that she doesnt dig her way out when im not home. what do you guys think? let me know and thanks.

all those old weights are being moved, i left it there to create a raised feeding table for her which il complete this week.

How far is the house from the fence? I have had them hop on and over. Need to cage the top possibly. Also--some dogs figure out how to climb chain link.
Every dog is different, time will tell. Also- paver blocks are good to detour a dog from digging out. Hope that helps!

The fence runs right along the house. She has that long path way to run plus another 10 feet. Wow didn't think bully's could climbs fences. Def gonna put the blocks in. Should I put them in the dirt or on top of the dirt?

I don't know how hot it gets where you live but if it gets bad you can add one of those mister hoses. It sprays a fine mist so it helps keep the dog cool. Or a kiddie pool for the dog to wade in.

The dog looks totally capable of climbing and they usually do in the corners. Just good to know and keep an eye out for. It looks like a nice spot and..if there is shade for summer, or the mister hose idea was a good one. I have a cool room set up for the hot summer days.
on the blocks...it may be a waste if the dog is not a digger. I line the bottom of the fence and then i filled my kennels with pea gravel. It works ok, but some of my dogs refuse to stay in, and chain spots may be another thing for me to do in future.
If you have a dog that does not want to stay in, it will get out.
You have a hell of a dog house also..i like it.

Thanks. The house is about 5 feet tall. Gonna put insulation in the fall n block off the front door. I never saw her climb but we are gonna watch n see. I'm probably gonna put up a tarp. Should I put it on an angle for the rain? N I was thinking about doing the whole floor in gravel. Or is that bad for her paws? She loves Rolling in dirt. But I hate it.
